Hey guys, I'm little lost on a few questions that I can't seem to get the answers to online/guides:

-Which aircraft was converted to an air tanker during Desert Storm ?
-which aircraft was the first fighter with capability of escorting bombers over very long distances?
-Which aircraft was designed to target the hard to hear Russian subs?
-First attack aircraft used on a carrier?
-Which of these first escorted bombers into enemy territory?

Final ASTB score 4/7/5 from 3/4/3. GPA 3.3 Computer science, reservist in Air Force. I barely hit the minimum with AQR. No more tries left as I didn't take the ASTB my first OAR attempt. Has anyone ever been accepted with a 4 for AQR?

your PFAR is a 7 so you should be ok for SNA

Hi everyone,

I'm retaking my ASTB soon and wanted to ask for all the help I can get because it's my last chance to take it. I took it a couple years ago and barely remember it and don't know if anything in the test changed at all.

So the OAR section is straight forward but is there anything pointers you all can give me or what topics I should focus on for the math, reading, and mechanics section? I want to increase my last score which was 40 to at least 60 because I was Pro-Rec N from the last board. For math, I was studying algebra and geometry but it was broad. For mechanics, I did pulley systems and gears? I just need pointers for the reading. I remember it was long?

ANIT: What do I study for this? I studied parts of the plane and boats but I remember before that I was hit with a question about knowing names of planes and when it was deployed (WWI, etc.) so any specifics I should look and study for?

So the second part of the test which is the PBM aviation side (I'm going to list the sections based on what I remembered so please chip in if I get or miss anything):
  1. UAV: I thought I got it down but wanted to refresh a little bit now I'm heck of confused. Does anyone have pictures I can use to practice on? And the object is always top of the page is North right? Because when I looked up UAV samples on youtube and google, TBAS samples popped up and their top page reference was South? Not sure if I'm making any sense. But any pointers will be great once again.
  2. Numbers/Letter series ( (I think is what's next): So you just focus on one controller right? I remember you're hearing it from one ear then the next but I don't know if you hit both joystick and throttle or focus on only one.
  3. Vertical Exam: I know you use your left hand (which is the throttle) to get it close to the cross fire [get airplane to target which was green I think) but do you press any button on your throttle?
  4. Horizontal Exam: Same thing as #3 but right hand, do you hit any button on the joystick?
  5. Vertical and Horizontal: Now I remember this section was a PAIN! I want to clarify, if you pull the throttle towards you (so down) it goes up and away from you (up) it goes down? And for the joystick, pulling it to left is right and right is left? And so, any tips on how to score high for this section?
  6. Emergency one: Did this section ever change? I remember you have to change the dial on something but I forgot which controller (joystick or throttle) you use. But I do remember this:
RPM ll Fuel
Fire: 0% ll 0%
Engine: 100% ll 0%
Fire: 100% ll 50%
Did these numbers/procedure change? Again, how do you do this part or change the dial?
7. I didn't do BI-RV then. Is this still true or is it implemented again?

OAR isn't going to cause you to get a Y or a N, it is the rest of your application, such as your GPA and degree.

That's what I thought too sir. I was very disappointed that I wasn't picked from the last SWO board. I asked my OR why I didn't get in and they said that they didn't received any information to why I didn't get selected. So now I have to retake the OAR because PA changed the minimum from 40 and 42 which made me a bit disappointed again because my GPA and OAR was well within the perimeters for acceptance for last board and have been at this application for almost 2 years. Any tips for this?

just because you have a GPA that is in the range listed in the PA doesn't mean it is a GPA that will get looked at seriously, the closer to the min in the program authorization the more remote the chance becomes, the closer to 4.0 the better the chance becomes based on the odds.

What do you suggest I do? So far the only thing I'm about to change in my application is my OAR/ASTB scores. I know I have to rewrite my personal statement.

Stats:
GPA: 2.85
Bachelor in Arts Public Health with 3 minors
LORS: 2 profs and HS teacher
OAR: 40 4/6/5

I tried SWO only for the first time.

How much time are you giving yourself to study? I can't speak for the other ASTB sections, but an increase from 40 to 60 is a pretty sizable jump. It likely will take a good bit of time to improve your understanding of the OAR topics enough to increase your score that high. However, the google drives that others have already shared are a good place to start.

I haven't signed up yet but a month from today is my target day. There was a huge jump from my first to second take but I think I was just studying topics all over the place and broad while spacing out in the reading section. What tips can you give me? More specifically, topics to study? Is a month enough time?
 
It was my last try, studied for about a month but the test kept restarting/stalling due to an update. and ended up lower scores then second try.
Recruiter said to try but didn't give an indication to chances. It was also noted that I couldn't take it a fourth time although the test was bugged and caused scores to be lowered.
This happened to me too! The computer had to be shut down and restarted I kid you not at least 5 times during my test! My math drop down menu wasn't working, but the timer was still going while I went to get help and while she shut it down. It's not that the computer glitch makes you answer wrong, but it is difficult to stay focused for a long period of time. The computer glitches stretched out my test an extra hour. By the time I was finished I was exhausted ahaha. Needless to say I will be taking the ASTB again and my advice to anyone taking the test is if your experiencing technical difficulties- RESCHEDULE! Why risk under performing on one of only 3 possible attempts?
