Agree with HCSC about vertrep. Those who think it's so great haven't done much of anything else.

Here's a quick flaming arrow to get the discussion back on track with the title of the thread:

The H-60 is just a miniature H-53. Discuss.

Agreed that VERTREP is notthe mission of all missions - those who think it is a really useful naval aviation mission - being subverted to a flying crane augment to UNREP need their heads examined - it takes aviators focus away from more combat oriented missions

DISCLAIMER - it is FUN, don't get me wrong, just not a real "mission" speacialty unto itself - for years HC thought it was. The Navy has come to realized that VERTREP is a mission skill that any helo community, HC, HS, HSL, should be able to handle..

As for an H-60 being a "miniature H-53, Then what, pray tell, is the S-92?

Obviously the result of a one-night stand between the -60 and the -53.

May not be in accordance with NAVPUBWHATEVER3-69, but we treat is as the following:

VERTREP: Repeated Pics and Drops between 2 ships in close proximity (~5NM r less) making repeated runs to facilitate resupply.

EXTERNALS: Flying a suspened load under the helo to a point or ship for drop-off. Usually one way. Such as bringing a 1400# electric motor in a sling to the CV for rewinding.

The return trip a few days later would be considered a seperate external.

Sounds like a Ven diagram to me.
