The Doctor is in! Ask a Flight Surgeon!

I was just medically disqualified from serving, as I did not receive the waiver for my eczema. And apparently the waiver process cannot be appealed.

The Doctor is in! Ask a Flight Surgeon!

I'm finally going through MEPS for my application to NUPOC, and I got disqualified for eczema. Other than Medical, I'm good to go, and my application is pretty strong. The issue is that my dermatologist originally diagnosed eczema, then I went back a year later and he changed it to nummular...

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

Great feedback! Thank you for your time. I have done some editing and tried to strengthen the ending: My family and I are privileged to come from a country that gives its citizens so much. I can think of no better way to repay my gratitude than to serve in the Navy and help preserve the...

    Motivational Statement MEGA Thread

Hey all, It appears that there aren't going to be any scholarships this year for my year group, so I have started a NUPOC application so that I can still try for a commission. I am pasting my motivational statement, and I'd really like any feedback you can give. Thanks in advance...

    Advanced Standing/Sideload Scholarships

Look at the date: 16 DEC 10, this information has been out for a while, and the actual numbers are probably much closer to zero. College programmers (such as myself) had better pray for advanced standing or (for nukes) look into NUPOC.

    Not so average NRTOC questionI

From one of my CP Marine Option: Ask your LT to give you the MOI's contact information and tell him/her that your interested. Then participate in Semper Fi in the fall, and then kick ass. Remember, the Marine Corps does not need you, so make yourself needed by destroying the PRT/CFT/etc. Good...

    NROTC Scholarship Chance?

Strudel, First off, people around here aren't too keen on the "What are my chances" threads because there is a search button. Second, theyre going to tell you that no one can possibly predict your chances although they may comment that your resume looks competitive. On a lighter note, I can...

What's my chances of getting the NROTC scholarship?

Scholarships are hard to come by these days, especially after the original 4 year National Scholarships are handed out. For example: For my Year Group there were 6 scholarships handed out to College Programmers, and all went to LREC students. So, my advice is to make sure youre application is...

Stupid questions aviators ask about SWO knowledges

Beans, I'm no naval architect, but my guess at the wake question is that 1) LCS is a propelled by a pump jet and 2) LCS is a step hulled design, like the 16 footer my family has, and therefore cuts through the water differently then a carrier. There may be other reasons, but two seem the most...

    Commissioning through BDCP

This is pretty entertaining... but in all seriousness, you wont get anywhere with that attitude, in the Navy or in the civilian sector. I may still be a newcomer to the Navy, but I know that asking stupid questions, and then having a hissy fit when you don't hear what you want is the wrong way...

When are ROTC cadets given the PRT?

I am, as yardstick say, awaiting a fantastic week and a half in the sun and sand of lovely Newport, Rhode Island. And while I haven't been re-mediated yet (I give it a 50/50 that I pass the PRT), you can be damn sure it wont happen again.
  16. Will_T

When are ROTC cadets given the PRT?

Work hard and you'll be alright, the requirements aren't that bad. I mean this time last year, I couldn't string together 5 push-ups to save my life, or actually run an entire mile, but I'm pretty close now to passing the prt now (if I don't actually pass it). I hope by next semester to kick ass...

Does anyone have any valuable advice for a new midshipmen?

Advice from the LT in charge of my unit, get good grades, work hard at pt, act professionally and go out of your way to help your shipmates and the unit. Good luck.
  18. Will_T

When are ROTC cadets given the PRT?

AA, I'm in the same boat you are, as my pushups suck, and my understanding is that for nrotc, you have to pass by the second prt to keep a scholarship, my guess is, if you fail, you do extra pt. And if you're that close, you might be able to push out 52 with the adrenaline. Best of luck on the...

    O-week Housing

So, here's what I've learned... 1. Dont piss off Yardstick, he knows people, and I guess M.Bates too. 2. Stay away from the NW wing of king hall. 3. Stay away from the sandboxes when possible. 4. Use more mysterious names online as to conceal my identity from everyone but the select majority of...

Sacrifice college choice a little for NROTC?

Ode, even if you don't get the scholarship (which I didn't), dont limit yourself to a school that you can afford out of pocket. Big schools will give great financial aid, especially with alll your ECs and if your SATs and grades are good. I'm going to BU in the fall, and got $25k off the top...

That's fine FN84, but you need to remember that this isn't any run-of-the-mill forum, this is a much more professional forum filled with naval aviators (officers mostly) and, if you play your cards right, colleagues. That said, there is some advice thrown in between the grammar-bashing (as well...

    H-92 for Navy?

I fail to see how losing "only" 10 percent of mine-clearing ability is minor, seeing as mines are an easy and effective way to deny the Navy's access to just about anywhere. Look at the USS Tripoli, USS Princeton, and USS Samuel B. Roberts. And even though the MCM fleet is dwindling, the LCS (if...

    Marine potential?

There are other ways to obtain a commission as a 2nd LT in the Marine Corp if that's what you want. Look into the Naval Academy and NROTC. As for the PT stuff, you have a long time to get ready, just keep training (although IMHO you seem to be doing pretty good already). If grades are a problem...

Spekkio, The velocity at impact would be greater then a bullet dropped from a plane for 2 reasons. 1) planes cant go up that high and 2) Since the projectile will have forward velocity (i.e. not fired straight up), it will have kinetic energy at the top of its arc, the speed would be much...
