Closed loop recycling of EV batteries is accelerating - that and the secondary market for battery sub-packs are already economically viable businesses in their own right. The market is addressing the need successfully.I don’t see degradation as the issue. They will degrade at some point. The larger question, I feel, is what are we doing with those old batteries. It isn’t exactly the kind of thing you can dump in the landfill or leave the hulk of an old car in a pick and pull lot.
We thought we found the solution to high priced gas, decoupling from outside energy sources, and limit climate impacts. However, no one thought through the cradle to grave problem. The NIBY crowd will eventually pick up on that once they’re done protesting the data center that drives up energy prices and manages the self-driving cars.
