Want to get a leg up on Primary?

My guess is that its not going to be the plane itself that makes it hard to own... its going to be fuel, and Mx. Thats what I found when looking into L-39s.

Really? You "looked into" an L-39? Were you at ALL serious about the proposition? Like... even 10% serious? I am only giving you shit, but like, seriously... a boat is a black hole in which to throw money. A plane is like a boat, but worse.

Like MB said, that's where the gauges used to be before the KLN was put in. Webmaster was actually one of the last studs (at least at Whiting) to fly the last 4 non-GPS birds. The stack that is in there is pretty nice looking though.

More power yes, but not "that" much more. The production model that's flying today has 550 SHP.

I'd be interested to see what you find. I'm guessing $1.something mil. I agree with statesman. I think the issue will be fuel costs. Mx you could probably spread out to be affordable, but 30-40 gallons/hour at $6+/gal will add up. That would be a sweet ride though. I'll admit it, if I lived in Yuma, I'd probably be shooting you a PM.

They're actually pretty easy to look into. There's even a couple of threads on here about them. But paying for 1000#/hour is rough.
 
Other than the cost increase per gallon from 93 Octane to Jet A, that's not much more than what my boat burns an hour anyways.
 
They actually had a Shorts Tucano on there a while back complete with Martin Baker ejection seats and very low time for about 1.3 if I remember correctly. And there's currently a flying Mig-29 on the site, if anyone is interested...

That's what I figure too. There's always wishful thinking that it's actually affordable.

Remember the "3F Rule" kids: If it flies, floats, or fucks, it's cheaper to rent.

Yeah I seriously looked into an L-39. And I am continuing to seriously seek a way to own one. It would take a slight change to some current FAA regulations, but Congressional General Aviation Caucus is already looking into making those changes. If you can own it as a business, which some people already do, it becomes much more realistic.

My wife needs to deploy so I can throw all her income towards my loans. :) Then the question becomes airplane vs. helicopter for the first toy...decisions, decisions...

You might be able to make it work with 3 or 4 guys. The other question will be insurance. It may not be a big issue since you guys already fly "complex/HP" aircraft, but I'd be interested to hear what you find out.
