Das and I basically agree to disagree about this guy's FB profile being relevant to the conversation, but I'll own up to "doxxing" being a poor turn of phrase. I'm not accusing das of throwing anyone's PII out there, for the record.

More info out of USNI news...

Fluent in Mandarin, VQ, War College, Congressional Liaison, then secret squirrel VPU.

This guy was being groomed for flag.

He had everything going for him - and yet made really shitty choices. Unbelievable. I don't know how or even if you can screen for this. Ego and a need to feel important likely were his sins. Sad to see how much was invested in this guy.

Looks like a possible non-DH screen, based on his listed Linkedin jobs

Looks like he was in the middle of his DH tour, a little late but not too far outside the norm especially with his previous billet. Interesting he was held for 8 months in pre-trial confinement without publicly acknowledging it, good on them for keeping it quiet I didn't realize they could do that.

calling him a "trained nuclear specialist" is a stretch, to me that is like calling a guy that completed API a "naval aviator" nothing in that initial nuclear pipeline isn't anything you couldn't find on the web (as the article does mention).

I agree it looks like he had everything going his way, he will have many years to reflect on his poor choices while sitting in a 10 x 10 box.

Is VPU considered a SM DH gig? It's certainly not where hot runners go to be groomed for command.

We can't yet conclude it was ego or unplanned/poor choices, even if Lin did commit espionage.

According to open sources, Lin emigrated from Taiwan (allegedly) at age 14 with his family. We can't yet rule out the possibility that Lin's loyalties resided with the PRC prior to his joining the USN. (It may not have been the M, C, or E in MICE. Not enough public info on the case to assess RASCLS.)

Absent new info, it's possible Lin's entire USN career was a cover, similar to James Robert Baker aka Majid Karimi, a NOC whose entry into the Navy was orchestrated carefully by a foreign intelligence service.

Quash speculation, then speculate! Anything is possible at this point, hopefully the FBI and NCIS will get to the bottom of it.

DoD really needs to expand the number of people that receive CI/lifestyle polygraphs and the requency that they get them.

Yes it costs a lot of money- they can totally unfund a couple of LCSs and Tritons to afford it.

Did you know that several spies defeated polygraphs multiple times? If you don't believe what you are doing is wrong with how is a polygraph going to pick it up?
