Remember 'em well. ..... And then there were "Falcon Codes"…………
Roger that. Falcon codes:D. Do you have a list??? If not, I need to dig deeper into my sea chest/parachute bag.

We need to pass 'em down to these punks ... oooops, 'scuse me, I mean youngsters ... :D

Ask and you shall receive. (Note – a couple of these may be a little different than I remember, but they're all close.)

To the unwashed and uninitiated pun...ah youngsters - Clear, concise, and accurate communication is essential, both in training and in combat. Of course in training, certain words and expressions are not to be said over the air. And in the heat of battle where they can be said, brevity counts by keeping the frequency clear. Thus the Falcon Codes were invented and used widely with great abandon! :D

Five or ten codes were committed to memory, and used often, like "That’s a Falcon one-ten."

But everyone carried the codes on a card with them so an unfamiliar code could quickly be de-coded in flight.

One buck beyond the three mile limit. Ten cents a pack. It was such a good deal, you couldn't afford NOT to smoke .... :)

I remember them being a buck 10 a carton. In fact one was ENCOURAGED to smoke from boot camp on. Non smokers got "fire watch" in boot. Non smokers got to watch the tool boxes on the roof while the others took their brakes. I think the cigars got me worse than the cigarettes. Damn shame but it's my fault, high BP and doing Toprol XL for angina smoking related. And to think many years ago I wrestled the likes of lloyd Keyser if any of you know of him. Nobody to blame but me.

FALCON CODES

119 ADIOS MOTHER FU_KER(s).........
Hmmm .... looking through "the list" .... FALCON 119 is what a bud of mine said when he dead-sticked his aircraft into the water -- only he "translated" the FALCON code into English for his last xmission .... "hard saying", indeed.

The current "Children on BDCP/OCS" thread makes me even more certain that if I could go fly in the 40s/50s/60s Navy, I would.

Where's Doc Brown with my time machine?

Amen, brother...
GREAT picture -- obviously the SARA as it sports the WW2 5"/38 mounts fore and aft of the island and the LEX went down @ Coral Sea with her useless 8" guns -- do you know the year it was taken???

In Jan '42, Sara had her 8" guns removed and placed as shore batteries for Oahu. She sortied from San Diego around the last day of Midway, ostensibly with her new 5"/38's...looks like late '42 paint scheme's on the SBD's and that looks like a lone Avenger with it's wings folded. Also, she hasn't received the slew of 40mm bofors yet, so that's pre-44.
Best guess? late '42, early '43
