Here is some gouge that will help those that are putting their kits together, especially regarding MS length and content...

Criteria Upon Which You will be Graded on the National Level

There are six primary criteria upon which you will be graded against other applicants when your application reaches the selection board at the national level. Please keep these categories in mind when completing your application so that you can highlight your strengths in these categories. The criteria are the following:

1. Leadership: You can indicate on your resume, in your application, and in your motivational statement the leadership qualities that you have. You can highlight how your leadership will be an asset to the Navy Reserve.

2. Letters of reference: Your letters of reference can benefit you by demonstrating some of the following characteristics: your character, teamwork, work ethic, leadership, problem solving abilities, accountability in your position, etc.

3. Professional Experience: You should be able to demonstrate how your professional experience will benefit the Navy Reserve.

4. Academics: GPA of undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.

5. Physical fitness: Demonstrate in your application your physical fitness activities.

6. Motivational statement: Needs to be 400 words or less and highlight the assets you bring to the Navy Reserve.

Just saw this on another thread. Can anyone else verify this as correct, and if so, does it change the 2015 July board to another date?

New Reserve Officer Community Management (BUPERS-318) just informed me of their decision to cancel this board (15-214) as FY15 SC DCO accession quotas have already been met. ROCMs decided to make all of their FY16 Professional recommendations at one board instead of spreading them over two. The FY15 NOPO's Working Board schedule will be updated to reflect this change. Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns.

If you or your NRD requested a kit extension for this board, continuing working the kit but understand that you now have a few more months to submit and no longer need the kit extension. At this time NRC is still receiving applications, so if you are not at goal...continue prospecting.

That verbiage sounds just like something taken from an email from NRC

Per my recruiter, this is correct. The next board is in July with a due date in June.
I am sorry to all of you who are experiencing the disappointment I experienced a few weeks ago. That being said, good luck on the July Board. I'm waiting to see if this board will default to July or if they'll allow new packages to be submitted for July. I'm almost complete, but on pins and needles now.

Based on the last sentence of the email "... At this time NRC is still receiving applications, so if you are not at goal...continue prospecting." I would say you should be GTG for the July board! Good luck in finishing up your kit.

i am new to this process, and this informtion has helped me a lot. As a contracting officer, how contracting biased are these boards? Hpw many contracting applicants typically apply?

I assume by "contracting officer" you mean supply corps officer? There could be several hundred applicants and, if we are lucky, about 10% or so of the applicants will be accepted. Who really knows as they could increase the number based on needs or, conversely, the needs could dictate a smaller number. We will just have to wait and see... Good luck!

Sorry, I misunderstood. People with substantial purchasing and contracting experience are chosen 3 to 1 vs. those with no experience in that area - according to the info on the Navy Reserve site. That being said, the board will be looking at the person as a whole, so there are lots of other areas that they look at. My OR told me that the board that was supposed to be this month (cancelled) had in excess of 150 applicants and that they were looking for no more than 25. Not sure how accurate that is or if the next board will be looking for the same number, but I can assume with a six month extension there could be many more applicants. - next board is July...

Close.

My class at BQC-NR has 3 people with contracting experience out of 15. The rest have none. They really do look at whole package. No 2 people in my group have the same qualifications. Supply Corps is an awesome mix of backgrounds.

interesting, do you think that not many contracting folks apply that are well rounded? or they are only looking for a few with contracting experience and henceforth only take a few. I was told contracting folks with warrants and a good overall package were almost always selected. Im Level 3 contracting, finishing MBA this summer, good leadership from being a contracting officer, and will have god recommendations from Army Officers.

No clue. I'm not a member of the selection board, nor am I a recruiter. I'm just going thru the program and relaying my experiences to those who find them interesting.

What happens during the selection panels is based on needs of Navy at the time. If they feel like they need a LOT of contracting experience in the coming years, they'll select heavy on that. It's just what they need at the time.
