SUPPLY DCO, FEB 2015 BOARD

SlimShady

The Real...
I can't seem to find a lot of folks (reservists) sending their kits in for the upcoming suppo board, so I thought I'd start this thread to get us all acquainted and see if we can help each other out... Feel free to post about where you are in the process, what have been your challenges and successes, etc...

I am almost finished with my kit. I am only missing one interview which I hope to have scheduled shortly. My security clearance is done and I go to MEPS next week for the oh-so-fun over 40 physical. My recruiter tells me that having everything done prior to the board will expedite the process should I be selected. I did reach out to someone who sat on a few SC DCO boards a couple of years back asked them to review my professional resume and MS and that person gave me some really positive feedback - "Based on his resume, I would say that he is a strong candidate for the SC DCO program. His work and leadership experience are terrific. His motivational statement is strong and well written, and stresses an understanding of Supply's role in the Navy." - I hope he is correct!

I am also applying for Supply Corps DCO. My stats are I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration a Masters in Homeland Security. I was on active duty for 12 years and went straight into the Reserves and I have almost 14 years of service in the Navy. As for my recommendations I have active supply corps Commander, 2 active Captain supply corps officer, 1 reserve Commander, 1 recommendation from my old CO which is an admiral select, and 1 recommendation from a US Congressman. My active duty evals were all EP's or 4,7 out of 5 ranking. When I was on active duty I was the Supply and Maintenance LPO for my department. Now I am a Maintenance/Supply Manager for a Steel Mill. I am done with my package I just have to take everything into the recruiter.

Welcome, sir! Looks like you are a strong candidate and I wish you all the best! Your stats are better than mine. I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a 3.62 GPA, no advanced degree, however, I have almost 20 years experience with 15 at the executive level. I have a strong logistics, purchasing, and project management background with experience leading a staff of over 100 people. I hope my background offsets my lack of an advanced degree. I am also prior service with 8 years active and four years ARNG.

Sounds like you are pretty competitive yourself. Don't get discouraged but one thing that I have noticed on these DCO Boards is that primarily everyone that does get Selected has a Masters Degree or higher. I applied to AMDO DCO twice until they changed the rules saying they were not selecting anyone who is not a Aviation Rate or worked at Navair or Boeing or something. I use to be an Electronics Technician in the Navy but now in the Reserves I am a Logistics Specialist or LS.

Not discouraged. On the contrary. I was told that, despite my lack of advanced degree, that people with my civilian experience were selected 3 to 1 vs little to no experience. In the reserve community they are looking for folks that can hit the ground running, so to speak. So I am confident, though there is still some trepidation there...

I was MI my last term of service. Human Intelligence Collector (interrogator) with Chinese Mandarin as my second language. I know that doesn't equate well in the suppo world - but I'm really good at ordering food... LOL

I would poke around some of the other things to look at the stats of those selected and pick their brains on how many applications they submitted, I would also communicate often with your recruiter about boards, some of those recently commissioned have said they are having a hard time finding a billet, the last time that happened they started cancelling and delaying boards.

Good advice

I'm trying to apply but I don't think I'm going to make it. I still have to get my interviews in. Not to be disparaging, but it doesn't seem like my recruiter is as motivated as I am to get finished up for the February board, which was my goal. I am really discouraged because I know that sometimes the only board that happens in a year is the first scheduled one. I've contacted my recruiter to keep them updated each week but know that this person is busy so I don't want to be a nuisance... however, if I'm not competitive or they don't want to bother, all they need to do is say so so I can make myself more competitive or go elsewhere :)

I am one class from finishing my MBA and (to this point) have a 4.0. I'll graduate after the next term. I'm 29, non-prior service, and have quite a bit of management/leadership experience and supply chain knowledge in the civilian world, although I don't have a six sigma certificate. I do plan on getting that, though, but I sure can't get it for February.

Anyhow, good luck to everyone. Not looking good for me this round but maybe a miracle will happen!

Be a nuisance! Your recruiter is there to help you and if he can't find the time then find someone who has the time! Good luck and keep pressing forward!

When did you first contact your OR? If you are doing well in your MBA I am guessing you did well for your UG degree also.

It could be that the NRD you are working with has an internal application deadline (we did) and if that has passed he may be busy with those that already met that date.

NRD due date for RC Supply is mid-January at the earliest. Being that it's the holiday standdown or the fact the due date is very close, you're right he/she might be focusing on those who have met the deadlines or are very close.

Called another today.

I did well on my UG, yes. Unfortunately I started this process MANY months ago with the hopes of getting through. Thankfully I have a lot of time-consuming stuff done. I'll still hold onto hope but also be realistic. This is something I want very very badly so I'm not giving up... I probably was just too patient with the first one, telling myself that this is a very long process and to get used to it.

Thank you both for the info.

Last year, I was contacted by a recruiter out of the blue to tell me about this program. I asked him how I could be even more competitive and he told me to get an MBA so I (almost) have one now. He's since retired but I'm happy he started me off on the right foot. The more he told me the more I wanted it, so you could say I'm highly motivated for this.

The "new" recruiter is even closer in distance to me now, and I told them they can tell me to jump and I'll say how high... if I need to travel somewhere I'll make it happen. So if I can at least GET somewhere, that'd be great. Then it's a wait to see what board I can get into and when.

All I want is communication... if the other recruiter had told me to find another, or even that there's no way I'll make it, or anything, that'd be great. Perhaps I should have read between the lines but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Correct. And on that note, does anyone know when the next board (after Feb) is scheduled? I know the schedule doesn't mean it will happen but it'd be nice to know. :) Any info is appreciated.
