Road to 350: What Does the US Navy Do Anyway?

I know Ward's channel does not get a lot of love here. That said once in a while he does some solid content - and I've always been curious about LCS - both what was the thinking that fueled its creation as a class/type and where is it now? I think this guest does a solid job of answering these questions.

Our O-6 just briefed the command that an extended Shutdown is likely. Bracing for the FURLOUGH. Will see what comes.
Even if the GOP in the Senate wanted to capitulate or split out the DHS funding into a separate bill and Democrats were onboard with debating DHS funding separately, it requires kicking the resolution back to the House...

Who is in recess until Feb 2. Even if the Speaker was going to entertain voting on a revised plan to parse out the DHS bill, we're talking a minimum of two weeks to get through the House and Senate to put it onto the President's desk.

But I think the Democrats will filibuster any and all appropriations bills as leverage to change DHS policy.

Maybe pass a balanced budget first? 🤷🏻‍♂️

FIFY. Passing any kind of budget instead of constant CRs would make a lot of people breathe easier, and able to move forward. My theory on why that won't happen is it's easier to consolidate power when nobody knows what TF is going to happen next.

We managed to balance the budget (briefly) in the 1990s, but I definitely don't see that happening anytime soon. More likely, we'll set a record for longest shutdown, again.

A person can dream, right? But you are correct. It seems that each side of the aisle weaponizes the budget to “get what their party wants”. I wish we could punish the politicians for each day we are shutdown.

We're never going to come close to balancing the budget as long as the ACA exists. It currently pays $1.5 trillion in corporate welfare.

Even if you rolled back the big beautiful bill, the TCJA, the EGTRRA, and JGTRRA (the latter two were made permanent by Obama), you would still be $750 to $1,000 billion short.

I would hope everyone on this board knows that balancing the budget would shrink US GDP by about $2 trillion and would basically nuke the economy.

Those ACA subsidies are like crack cocaine . . . . gonna be really, really tough for "some" to give them up.
