Even if the GOP in the Senate wanted to capitulate or split out the DHS funding into a separate bill and Democrats were onboard with debating DHS funding separately, it requires kicking the resolution back to the House...Our O-6 just briefed the command that an extended Shutdown is likely. Bracing for the FURLOUGH. Will see what comes.
Maybe pass a balanced budget first?Pass the SAVE act . . . .
You and I both know the reason for shutting down the government this weekend will have nothing to do with passing a balanced budget . . . . but I digress.Maybe pass a balanced budget first?![]()
I would hope everyone on this board knows that balancing the budget would shrink US GDP by about $2 trillion and would basically nuke the economy. You and I both know the reason for shutting down the government this weekend will have nothing to do with passing a balanced budget . . . . but I digress.

A person can dream, right? But you are correct. It seems that each side of the aisle weaponizes the budget to “get what their party wants”. I wish we could punish the politicians for each day we are shutdown.FIFY. Passing any kind of budget instead of constant CRs would make a lot of people breathe easier, and able to move forward. My theory on why that won't happen is it's easier to consolidate power when nobody knows what TF is going to happen next.
We managed to balance the budget (briefly) in the 1990s, but I definitely don't see that happening anytime soon. More likely, we'll set a record for longest shutdown, again.
We're never going to come close to balancing the budget as long as the ACA exists. It currently pays $1.5 trillion in corporate welfare.A person can dream, right? But you are correct. Those ACA subsidies are like crack cocaine . . . . gonna be really, really tough for "some" to give them up.We're never going to come close to balancing the budget as long as the ACA exists. It currently pays $1.5 trillion in corporate welfare.
Even if you rolled back the big beautiful bill, the TCJA, the EGTRRA, and JGTRRA (the latter two were made permanent by Obama), you would still be $750 to $1,000 billion short.
