P-8 Selection

You joined the Navy, they mainly ride around in boats!
Roger that.:)
BzB

I'm all about the boat, can't wait to go back. No choice on Nostalgia, guess the E2-D new but I think the only hotness applies for the FO's. I'll take a Nostalgic C-2 if the Navy will let me.

My posting was just referencing the current climate my maritime brothers seem to have towards the P8 selection.

So you are not at OCS? hard to tell anymore, when a friend called me and emailed me his third week of OCS. Sounds more like band camp with blue berry uniforms now. Not to mention the new Nemitz and private bathrooms

What. The. Fuck.

Picking P-3s for nostalgia... not a good plan. I'm happy with my time in the P-3, it was awesome. Mostly because we had some awesome FEs that were a lot of fun to fly with. But given the choice I wouldn't choose P-3 over P-8, and I am beyond happy to get half a JO tour in the new hotness.

Thanks for the advice, there's no telling where I will end up as long as it is an aircraft I will be fine. Just was curious to know if everyone is going the maritime route due to the P-8.

No I am not in OCS yet nor do I plan on using any electronic devices for social sites while in OCS, I thought you couldn't anyways. I read about the new Nemitz training building opening I guess my class will enjoy are stay there, didn't know there was private bathrooms.

Regarding private bathrooms- be careful what you wish for. In a place like OCS, that's just more stuff to keep squeaky clean for the next inspection ;)

Not saying it's 100% Jax = P-8, but the "technique" given for filling out dream sheets in Corpus right now is "if you want a shot at P-8, put Jax P-8, but nobody bother putting Jax P-3, because they're probably not trying to fill too many of those anymore". They also say that there "may be an extra slot when you get to Jax, so don't despair," but nobody in Jax has heard of that, so that's bad gouge. Two from my class got P-8 from Corpus, another put Jax first but got P-3, (so probably got his second choice) and I put Whidbey first and second, for personal reasons. Don't know for sure that I'm going to Whidbey, but I'm pretty sure I won't be here after the RAG - we'll define that around halfway through.

That's all I meant.

My understanding is that there will be P-3s in Jax for quite a while. They're going to need NUBs, so I doubt the slots are going away.

True. Even if the transition schedule isn't delayed at all, you're looking at 2 more years of P-3s in Jax. That assumes exactly ZERO delays. I don't expect transition to go that well with all the budget mess thats going down now.

The last plan I saw had the P-3's still flying at Jax through 2016.

That sounds like it might be for VP-30 to support squadrons in other locations. Unless something changed operational Jax squadrons are all supposed to transition first, then the west coast squadrons.

1 squadron done in 2013. Possibly 3 more by the end of the planned Runway project in DEC 2014. That leaves 2 squadrons left to transition in 2015. So, at the beginning of FY 16 there will be P-3's (besides 30 & 62) flying at Jax.

The toughest thing is finding the parking for all f them!

Time to start juicy rumors about

-permanent dets at Cecil
-squadrons may be sent back to Brunswick
-a folding wing mod!

edit: NIP base ops will get its own ouija board

My head hurts just considering all the new NATOPS limits and checklists I'll have to learn with a wing-fold mod. . .

My squadron's transition has already been delayed at least once, and they may fly the damn thing another 2 deployments after this one coming up, which would put them in that 2016 ball park.
