Does the "J" in J-Curve stand for jelly?

Sweet Jesus.
One can never be sure with the President's comments. Is it a Trumpism, or his preference to be obtuse or imprecise when speaking of foreign policy and military options? But the notion that a military option, that is a roll for the military in Venezuela, is absurd is in contravention of history. Failed, failing or unfriendly governments under siege have resulted in Americans and their interests being threatened numerous times. And, historically, the military has been ordered into action in some of those cases.

Operation Urgent Fury
Operation Just Cause
Operation Eagle Claw (Failed Iran hostage rescue)
The CVW 17 intercept and force down of an Egypt Air B737
Operation Ghost Rider (the Libyan bombing )
and although the US interests and American protection argument is weak, Operation Restore Hope, for humanitarian reasons.

There are plenty of Americans living and working there. It is not hard to imagine American interests and persons requiring evacuation, rescue, or defense in Venezuela. And that is a job for the military, for which plans currently exist and are likely being reviewed. That is why the fuck!

I doubt the intent was to convey the possibility of HA or NEO operations, but as you indicated, precision in language is lacking. I hope that you would agree that in the conventional way in which you and I understand the phrase "military option," that it doesn't make much sense in ameliorating Venezuela's manifold economic and political problems. Until they pose a serious threat to our national interests, let the Venezuelans figure it out. They were seduced by a charismatic socialist buffoon. The chickens have come home to roost.

I happen to believe the message did convey the possibility of HA or NEO. Neither of us knows for sure. And neither does anyone else chattering about it in the news. I agree, any military option, as we know them, would not cure Venezuela's economic and political problems. But I believe the answer given by the President respecting the suffering of the people of Venezuela does suggest he thought about military HA operations, not a TLAM on Maduro's head. HA a good idea? I certainly don't think we are there yet, especially since it likely would not be permissive. Clearly some of those operations have gone south for us, others, the vast majority, the US military has done well and they should be proud. In any case. I believe the hyperventilation over his comment is misplaced.
