FWIW, FAA medical doesn't check for depth perception. I second that your best bet is probably getting your recruiter to take you to a military hospital or if you know any Flight Surgeons personally to administer the test.

Honestly, I found NAMI easier to deal with than MEPS. Once I was in Pensacola, so long as you didn't have something that was REALLY screwed up with you, they seemed like they wanted to help you out instead of send you home. MEPS, on the other hand, seemed like they got off on disqualifying people. I really hope that our OCS flight physicals are closer to a Pensacola experience and further from a MEPS experience. It would be a real punch in the gut to have to finish OCS NPQ'd so you can try to fight it in Pensacola.

What actually happens if NAMI disqualifies you? Do you just get randomly redesignated? I’m scared that NAMI will find something MEPS didnt, even though I hid nothing and passed without a problem. But it’s sounds like they are willing to help you as long as it’s not something crazy

Yeah, I'm kind of scared for the same reason. From what I've heard, they will often give you the chance to redesignate (often to SWO). My first goal is to be in the Navy, and my second is to fly, so as long as I'm not disqualified all together, I'm ok with whatever happens. The way I see it, if I have some sort of condition that I am unaware of that keeps me from serving, it's better that I know about it than not.

My second choice is NUPOC for SSBN subs. That community really seems to want me given my physics degree, and it sounds pretty lucrative. Not too interested in SWO after I got a glimpse of it on the NVIP trip; so hopefully they offer a few more choices. But like you said, it’s better to know about an issue and not fly for the safety of yourself and others. I go to my physician every year though and there’s nothing that I’m aware of that should cause NAMI concern. Hopefully we’ll both be in the clear!

Someone-that-isn’t-me looked at the answer sheet that was sitting on the desk while the depth perception test was being administered to him/her at MEPS. ?
He/she had heard that the depth perception test at MEPS was a shit show and didn’t want to step into any of it.

My old recruiter tried to scare me out of applying for NFO by telling me a lot of people fail the depth perception test at MEPS. Really didn’t appreciate his subtle coercion attempts at all. First of all, NFO doesn’t require depth perception, which I pointed out to him after the day was over.

For me, should this kind of situation arise, my alternate choice would be Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer (AMDO). I don’t think I’ll be ever happy doing anything outside of Naval Aviation. Hell, the thought of going SWO or even the Supply Corps pisses me off since I’ll be playing right into the “Southeast Asian Sailor Stereotype.” No thanks to my old enlisted recruiter from 12 years ago for ever bringing this B.S. into our own personal discussion before I went in btw! ??
That out of my system, though, for the most part, it’s Pilot all the way for me.

Update in regards to my own PROREC N...
It looks like the Board left me some notes regarding my package and that my motivational statement was "lacking passion towards becoming a Naval Aviator and was too long". Unfortunately, at my own fault, I disregarded the motivational statement mega-thread and opted towards creating mine out of the preset questions and guidelines my recruiter or some other individual who sent me the form had already laid out. Everything else about my package was fine and adequate towards being accepted but they want me to resubmit with a new, shorter (It was over 700 words), and more NA focused statement. I've already mostly completed it and am also getting a new LOR to freshen the package up, as well as I'll be graduating this month so a new finalized transcript with a higher GPA should also help.
The plan is to resubmit for the Dec. 19th deadline for the January Board and hopefully have good news for you all in the next few months. That would possibly leave me in still being in some of your classes, or catching you on the tail end of your own classes.

Well that VERY quickly throws a wrench in the idea that the motivational statement doesn't matter, you were turned down with GOOD scores due to it, which is surprising to say the least. Also, interesting to see it can be "too long". Mine filled at least 3/4 of the available box per what my recruiter told me to do, but it was all written about being a pilot so I guess the board deemed it okay.
