FY06 Hopefuls

STA-21NURSE

It’s been a while since the FY06 hopefuls have chimed in. It’s October 3rd and I find myself becoming a bit anxious.
So, for those eagerly awaiting the results, how are you doing? It’s been a long summer and a longer 2 months since the FY06 cycle closed.
Oddly, I was certain that I would be selected while I was preparing my package. Now that my package is submitted and out of my hands… I’m not so sure. Is this normal jitters or a sign?
Oh well, post and let me know how you’re coping with the most important NAVADMIN EVER.

geeze! i'm trying not to think about it here and you totally killed it. anyway, i submitted my package last month. at first i was on standby at the phone but i've given up the idea and have since decided to distract myself with other thoughts.

i have also the same experience as you regarding my confidence in being selected, i guess in time we'll find out. i'm hoping it's just the jitters. what did u apply for and your scores, etc?

Sorry!

Anyhow, my package demographics are as follow:
• Age: 29
• Time in service: 11 Years
• Designator: FMF (Fleet Marine Force) MTS (Master Training Specialist)
• Current Assignment: Instructor at the Naval School Of Health Sciences
• Significant Collateral Duties: NEC Enlisted Technical Leader, Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee
• Program Option: Nurse Corps
• Desired Nursing School: Point Loma Nazarene San Diego, CA
• SAT: 1250 (Verbal 690 Math 560)
• Evaluations: EP, EP, MP, EP, EP
• HS GPA: 2.9 (<--Nasty! Hopefully, the board will realize that this was 12 years ago.)
• College Credits: 33
• College GPA: 3.7
• PRT: Excellent Low
• Letters of Recommendation: CAPT (Surgeon, Department Head, advisor to the Surgeon General), CDR (Department Head), CDR (Department Head), LT (Div “O”), and CMC
• Community Service: Meals on Wheels, Little League Coach, Drunk Drivers of San Diego
• Interview Boards: 10’s with very strong write-ups
• CO: Interview went OK, but there was less dialogue then I expected. I feel like I could have been a bit more charismatic in my responses. I provided a very strong “sample” endorsement that took me several months to compose. He signed it with few changes.

I think that summarizes my package. I had been working on it for a bout 2 years.

I think I found out in the middle of Oct. I was doing some work down in the torpedo room on my submarine and I look up and there was the CO standing there. He said congrats, you've got selected to STA21. I was very happy. I went home and celebrated because I just got selected and I just got rid of my ex-wife, it was a great month.

Keep your heads up and if you end up wit the short end of the stick don't let that bother you. Plenty of us had to try more than once to get in (in fact I think most non-nukes try more than once). Good luck and I know exactly what you're feeling right now.

Thanks FC2!
I'm going to try to avoid getting my hopes up, but it is tough. I am anticipating mid OCT for the results.

I didn't really worry myself with it right after I submitted the package. But now on 4 Oct I find myself occupied with it. I figure that it's my first year applying and I'm still very junior to the Navy... not a great chance I'll get selected anyway. But I still have my hopes up dreaming about seeing my name on the selected list. What an honor that would be.

STA-21NURSE,

I completely understand wher eyou are coming from.... I have been going through the same thing, probably checking bupers 10 times a day.... It almost seems like time is standing still just to make me sweat the results... But I guess patience is the best thing right now (as hard as that is to muster up)....

Good luck to all,
Seth

yea, and it doesn't help when everyone you know keeps asking when you are going to find out....

yeah, it was pretty slim pickings last year, I think about 186 of us total

I think the people in charge of STA-21 enjoy making us sweat.... For the last 3 years I have been wondering why they do not announce a specific date for when the results will be posted... I hate checking the NPC website 400 times a day just hoping that the message will be on there (but at the rate they are going, it usually takes a few days for them to post messages)....

Ok off my soapbox now.... just felt like venting some frustration....

you guys do realize that your CO's will (or should) know before the NAVADMIN hits the streets, right?
