Lack of gainful employment during AT's and drill weekends.
Having been assigned to two NIOCs, I can tell you being in CW isn't necessarily a cure.

Lack of gainful employment during AT's and drill weekends. This is across three units, so YMMV. Particularly disappointing was my time at NR C10F. Complete waste of time.
Were you able to get new appraisals?
Correct. You'd have to wait until the OIC rotates out.could be tough as OIC's don't change out every year.
I wouldn't expect a CW to do much at a NIOC, perhaps NCWDG or CDA 64 would be different.Having been assigned to two NIOCs, I can tell you being in CW isn't necessarily a cure.
The best program I ever had involvement with was the NAVWAR Reserve Program (formerly, SPAWAR).You can do a lot of goodness as a CW or IP if you “choose your own adventure” with long term ADOS/ADSW.
As has been noted, DWEs/ATs don’t always accomplish a whole lot.
Is that something you can do as a reserve DCO, or would you need to be mobilized?I wouldn't expect a CW to do much at a NIOC, perhaps NCWDG or CDA 64 would be different.
There is a Reserve unit attached to NCWDG.Is that something you can do as a reserve DCO, or would you need to be mobilized?
Got it, thank you. There is a Reserve unit attached to NCWDG.
SUPPO is very competitive and you would be competing against global sales heads and those of similar backgrounds. Simply having some work experience and education will not cut it.He doesn't think I will have good odds for a SUPPO slot, which is a little (though not a lot) surprising to me as I have some relevant work & education experience in the field.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I posted a little bit of this in the SUPPO thread, but my plan is to focus my efforts on 1815 & 1825 as I think I'd be much better suited for them!SUPPO is very competitive and you would be competing against global sales heads and those of similar backgrounds. The two SUPPOs I know: one is a senior financial leader at a large financial institution and the other is the global head of sales for a company. The common denominator: heavy finance skills and experience.
