FY 21 IWC DCO Reserve Board

Lack of gainful employment during AT's and drill weekends. This is across three units, so YMMV. Particularly disappointing was my time at NR C10F. Complete waste of time.

I see. The reason I want to join the Navy is to help with cyber defense but I'm not exactly sure where I would be drilling and what I will be doing. I will do whatever the Navy needs me to do but I am hoping to get employment at some point as a GS IT Specialist so I can work at the same place I drill. What is the probability of being able to do that?

You can do a lot of goodness as a CW or IP if you “choose your own adventure” with long term ADOS/ADSW.

As has been noted, DWEs/ATs don’t always accomplish a whole lot.

The best program I ever had involvement with was the NAVWAR Reserve Program (formerly, SPAWAR).

Just spoke to my recruiter again -- he has been great. His suggestions are to apply for 1815, 1825, and INTEL. He doesn't think I will have good odds for a SUPPO slot, which is a little (though not a lot) surprising to me as I have some relevant work & education experience in the field.

He's going to try and connect me with some CWE guys to network. Should I start trawling LinkedIn to find Officer reservists as well?

I'm a dual citizen (USA & Australia) and he thinks I'll only need to show willingness to renounce citizenship if required, as opposed to renouncing it proactively.

SUPPO is very competitive and you would be competing against global sales heads and those of similar backgrounds. Simply having some work experience and education will not cut it.

The two SUPPOs I know: one is a senior financial leader at a large financial institution and the other is the global head of sales for a company. The common denominator: heavy finance skills and experience.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I posted a little bit of this in the SUPPO thread, but my plan is to focus my efforts on 1815 & 1825 as I think I'd be much better suited for them!

Suggestion: don’t put Intel #3 if you don’t intend to invest the time and energy to learn to be a great Intel officer, or, if you’re merely hoping for it to be a quick stepping stone to some unrelated designator.

Also, dual citizen and Intel officer aren’t typically compatible. Especially when there are plenty of qualified officer applicants whose only allegiance is to the United States. I’m not saying it’s impossible or forbidden, but I’ve also never met any.
