Thanks, and S/F. Prior AD enlisted USMC. Went to state university on G.I. Bill and continued on with USMCR while in college. Worked as a management consultant and then telecommunications project management. Moved into leadership and started climbing the ladder. Currently director level at a Fortune Global 500 telecommunications company. Along the way, went to law school at night, also at a state university. Graduated cum laude and admitted to practice (which I do, part-time). No illusions about my chances, as I realize that this is a hyper-competitive endeavor. Working to develop my candidacy so that I can put my best foot forward before the board.
Have you already started working with an OR? How far along in the process are you?

Was working with an OR, but he has moved to another city. Not sure if that means I'll be assigned to a new one. I have all of my documents, but not sure which ones must be redone vs. which ones can be reused. I expect I'll need to do new interviews as well.

I think he primarily worked with candidates for OCS. When I was going through the process, he said I was the first one he had.

Hey, first time heading into this process for FY19 here. Similarly working with an OR and planning submitting for this year's board.

Out of curiosity, I've been talking with some of the Navy reservists who have done this process in past years but, while there've been a lot of changes, I just wanted to see if it is the usual deal first to have your OR have you go to MEPS before anything? The reason I'm asking is that MEPS has taken close on three months to schedule and I'm getting a little frustrated sitting on my hands when I know there is more to do.

senatesnob,

So my OR is had me contact my NOSC to ask if they could do my exam for me. My NOSC just checked to see what medical forms needed to be completed and signed (DD 2807-1, 2808, and 2807-2, and all can be googled). The HM2 said they should be able to complete them depending on the doctors decision on whether they could complete a comprehensive enough exam at the NOSC. This may be an option for you as well. I have drill this weekend so I can report back on Monday, on whether it worked out or not.

Just want to throw my stats out there. I plan to apply for Intel/IP/IW in that order. My goal is to get commissioned as a Naval reserve officer, so what community I'm selected for is not that important IMO.

30/M
11 years of service in the Navy, 6 active 5 reserves.
Currently a Navy reservist GM2 serving in an Expeditionary Navy Cargo Handling Battalion
Warfare Pins: Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist (EXW), Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (AW)
I might look into attempting to cross rate into an IDC related rate (IS, or IT) depending on how my first attempt at this board goes.

Education:
B.S. Computing Technology- 3.93 GPA
M.S. Human Resources Management, Minor in Organizational Leadership - 3.87 GPA

Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Security +/ A+

Occupational:
Currently a Network/Timing engineer, working as a contractor for a three letter DoD agency.
I have been the team lead on network implementation/upgrade projects at different DoD bases/sites.
As a reservist I lead a group of 6 sailors directly as the LPO of the Career Counseling division, and over 60 indirectly since I'm in charge of a program that the entire unit utilizes. I will be attending the Navy reserve Career Counselor school in the next few months.

Volunteer work: I do a lot volunteer work at my church, in a "Watch Dogs" program at my daughters school, and I sponsor an AF Academy cadet.

LoRs: Pending.

It's a pleasure to be here on this forum with you folks!

I am pretty new to this process. If you're going for DCO -IP, how many boards are there a year, when are packages due and when are the boards? I've reached out to a OR maybe 60days ago and he just sent a form to start my physical. The process has been very slow, the most I have got out of him is "highly competitive" after sending him all of my credentials.

Normally there is only one board a year and its in January with the completed kits due in December. This year it appears there will be another board in September so I would try to be prepared at the latest, July/August.

thanks for the @devilbones . I have asked my OR over a dozen times if I should wait for my physical and get into physical standards. He's still pushing to schedule the physical ASAP. I really don't see any sense in doing the physical if I'm over the 196lbs allowed and barely making the max BMI of 26%. I've asked him over and over if I should wait to take the physical. He acts as if I never asked and proceeds. This is why I asked you earlier if this isn't a prerequisite for the package but expecting a correction prior to acceptance. No doubt in my mind Ill have this corrected by the end of summer, I just know it won't be corrected before the physical.

Good luck in whatever you end up doing. I think that you should follow your recruiters advice. Just lose a few pounds before the physical.

One more question...

According to my officer recruiter the board will be twice a year, March and September, moving forward for IW/IP/Intel/METOC. Dropping my packet for the upcoming September board.

Exactly! I'm 6' and at 225lbs today. Damn homebrewing go to me. Doing a tap measurement, i need to lose 3 inches. As per 2 weeks ago, I reduced my calories from 2200 to 1200, no processed foods/fried foods... Very healthy diet now and burning maybe 1k calories from exercise plus whatever is burned from normal activity. I have never been a snacker, I have only eaten 2 meals per day (unhealthy lunch and an ok dinner). Like I said, I never consumed many calories - it was just the beer and no exercise. Don't eat sweets, don't eat chips, nothing ever added to coffee... Besides beer, im sure the lack of exercise put my metabolism to a screeching halt. I sit in an office 9 hrs and day and commute 3 hrs a day. That's 12hrs sitting, not to forget the sitting during grad classes. There is some walking involved. I work in the 2nd largest federal building in the country - theres just no way to calculate the walking since no personal devices are allowed in the building.

Sounds like you will lose that weight if you keep up with your calorie defecit. At 5' 11" I was at 200lbs three months ago, and now I'm down to 175, mostly all through just calorie counting and moving more.

I too work at a federal building with no personal devices allowed, so I feel your pain lol!

Good luck and keep it up!

This is how it was years ago, then they went to once a year, like RUFIO said on the other thread, this isn't going to mean more spots, it will just mean the spots are split between 2 boards.
