mb1k,

I'm curious about that email you quoted. It sounds like the tail-end of a really long and painful story about trying to buy these watches. What other "unforseen delays" have you experienced? I mean, if you ordered last April and they still have not determined a ship date, well, I'm no math expert but that seems like a lot more than "up to six months". I'd really like to know what I'm getting myself into before I put my cash into this pot or try to convince others to do so.

Yep. The clock says, "MAN TIME".

I don't know all the facts, but as it was relayed to us guys in the group buy via the guy heading it up...

We had some "art issues" where they didn't have the right line art even though we requested what should've been standard Naval Aviator Wings that I'm sure they've done a thousand times before. That ate up like 5 weeks. Followed by "batch" waiting since the line isn't open for X-33 production until they get a set number. Then it was the case back problem and the "supply" issue which brings us up to date as of two weeks ago.

Just to clarify from my end....

This is exactly why I've waited so long to start a seperate thread for this buy. I want people to know exactly what to expect when they send their money to me. I don't want there to be any ambiguity between the buyers and me about this.

I am dealing with the same person at Omega, and spoke to her at length the other day. She promised me a "projected delivery time" from Swatch Corp. (the parent company) and the minute I have it, I will begin the nitty gritty of this purchase.

mb1k, please keep us in the loop. Thanks very much for the info.

Not interested in the group buy, but I have had an X-33 for 9 years and it has been a fantastic watch. For those of you undecided or just thinking about it, I highly recommend you go for it.

As has been mentioned, the watch is no longer for sale to the public. The X-33 never had much of a following among watch enthusiasts, but since it was discontinued resale values have been steadily climbing. Now is a great time to pick one up at a VERY, VERY good price. Omega's military deal is significantly better than Breitling's (although I just bought a custom Airwolf, but that's a different story).

Scoob, you're doing a great job getting all of the info. Honestly I'm pretty much in no matter how long it takes. I get the feeling that these opportunities are going to become more and more rare and I'd hate to pass it up while I've got the chance. I can actually understand the delays. I mean, they are building a watch from the ground up specifically for the special order. That's gotta take time. I appreciate you getting us a firm (as it can be) date for us. Keep it up.

After looking at some pics of the X-33, you can definitely count me in.

You know, the funny thing about the X-33 is that people complain that it doesn't get enough comments from people looking at it.

This drives me freaking nuts...that people buy a watch which is intended as an instrument/tool, then get annoyed when it doesn't get them noticed socially.

They're right -- this thing isn't going to scream "I'm a pilot!" to the casual observer that sees it. Hell, if you want that, go get your Citizen Navihawk -- or better, a Breitling Super Avenger -- and troll it around town. Strangely, I've personally found that this watch DOES elicit comment from people I'm interested in actually talking to; either watch enthusiasts who know what it is, or aviators who know what it is. The aviator fanboys who would fawn over a "pilot" watch (and, let's face it -- no fangirls really care what's on your wrist) blissfully won't even notice it and won't bother you.

But, if you care about a well-built watch that has features you WILL use as an aviator, and are not too terribly concerned about the ego-stroking you'll get while wearing it, this is the watch for you.
