We're almost there...almost.

Is that sarcasm, or are you serious right now? Do you really expect anyone to take that phrase to heart, given the number of times the goalposts have been moved? The problem with statements like the above is it's even worse than being given a deployment homecoming date- there is zero trust that it will be honored when the time comes. The COVID mania has taken over from rational risk-based decision making.

Here's an idea: Treat adults like adults, and tell us- objectively and in a quantifiable manner- what the recommended exit criteria for various measures are. Admit that the "zero risk" mindset is a pipe-dream, and provide a framework for people to make their own decisions (e.g. getting J&J despite known potential side effects). Work to inform and build trust, not consolidate fear and authoritarian power.

I keep imagining Fauci and Walensky's faces on an Obama-style campaign poster with the words "NO YOU CAN'T". This kind of fear-based, one-size-fits-all "leadership" has jumped the shark from unfortunate mania to complete insanity. It's no wonder so many people don't want to hear from them any more- it's all negativity, all the time.

Just my $0.02. And, FWIW, I got vaccinated at the first opportunity and got on with my life.

The goalposts have been moved because the virus gets a vote and we've had surge after surge and now variants popping up.

But as I noted above, we are putting millions of shots into arms every day. When we've vaccinated enough, and enough of the anti-vaxers have gotten sick, then we'll have herd immunity. That's the goalpost.

But as I noted above, we are putting millions of shots into arms every day. When we've vaccinated enough, and enough of the anti-vaxers have gotten sick, then we'll have herd immunity. That's the goalpost.

Herd immunity? But what about the variants?!

If you think Fauci (or whomever) is ever going to stand up publicly and say "Herd immunity achieved!" then I have some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you at a very special price.

There's always something else that poses a risk, and there seems to be a "zero risk" mindset, as if that is somehow attainable. My objective assessment is that this won't really "end" per se. It'll just slowly (over years) morph into something along the lines of annual flu campaigns- a flu shot and COVID shot annually (or so) ad infinitum, with the added fun of pop-up mask mandates and the occasional lockdown scare due to some mysterious new variant or illness. All hotly contested and politically framed, of course. Remember the Patriot Act? These "temporary measures" don't tend to go away without a concentrated political effort to get rid of them- and sometimes not even then.

And? It shouldn't surprise you that NASA plays it really safe when it comes to exposing their soon-to-be departing astronauts to any sort of viruses, you can ask Ken Mattingly about that if you want, and wearing a mask is a simple but effective safety measure even with all the other precautions.

You can always tweet your informed opinion about their launch preps at NASA if you want, I'm sure they'll be happy to ignore it.
