The idea that our CJCS would have dialogue with another country's CJCS equivalent is basically "dog bites man, film at 11." Presidents talk to heads of state. SECDEF talks to MINDEFs. CJCS talks to defense/defence chiefs. This in itself is a normal thing. Now, if he was jumping that rank equivalency, different story.

Also, let's not forget all the times Bob Woodward has been accused of embellishing or fabricating stories in his reporting, to include Watergate.

If the reports are true, he shared strategic information. That should not happen. Beyond that, it sounds too much like GEN Westmorland putting himself in charge after Reagan was shot.

He needs to be fired and courts martialed. At the very least he needs to be retired as a 2 star (2 star is highest rank to retire without nomination to retire at 3 or 4 and Congressional approval).

I believe you mean Alexander Haig, who was a retired general and serving at that time as Secretary of State.
