Sea duty is 3 years long for an officer. You deploy for about six months every year. And shore duty is also 3 years for an officer and you dont deploy at all. There are a whole bunch of different types of duty stations for shore duty. Some take you out of the normal NFO duties and some keep you in them, like intructing duty or being an NFO at the FRS squadron in jax.

You'll do a sea shore rotation for the first few years. Then you'll do a department head tour, if you stay in long enough and make rank. Pilots will do the same type of rotation and same types of shore duty stations but they have a couple more pilot specific duty stations.
Thanks. So what would life be like if you were an NFO or a pilot on for a P-8? Would you spend anytime on a ship for sea duty? Would you just be attached to a naval base for your whole career?

Dang it, I just heard about the new covid variant B.1.1.529 that’s spreading globally. This one is going to freeze everything… @exNavyOffRec, would you expect selects here to get pushed back even further?

Epidemiologist expect this variant to be extremely worrisome (vaccine efficacy goes way down).

Still extremely early, even though it appears to be more resilient to vaccines it could be and likely is less lethal than prior variants. Fauci said two weeks until he can make a definitive ruling on how concerning the new variant is. Moderna Pfizer and J&J already have started gene sequencing to make a more effective booster.

Stay the course, Nov 1 selects likely already done and won’t be impacted by any covid changes

Thankfully the last couple major variants have shown that even if the vaccine is less effective at preventing transmission it's still done a great job of making cases way less major and keeping hospitalizations down.
