    Corpus T-6 transition

What in the fuck does that have to do with anything T-6 related? And do you honestly believe anything that comes out of the kooliaid factory that is VP-30? I'll bet you believed them when they told you that you are going to blow some ships up because one day in the future P-8 will carry harpoon.

    Level D time towards ATP?

The only thing I can offer is gouge, but this is what I was told in P-8 land: Even though the P-8 sim is essentially a COTS product slightly modified with some new switches and buttons for us, but otherwise EXACTLY the same as a 737-NG sim, we (the Navy) did not certify the trainer, and...

Re-select E2/C2 out of primary again for FY13 studs?

Not a fact at all actually. The billeting for VTs favors helo guys. Especially more recently. With rotors becoming a larger part of the navy pilot pool their share of orders out of millington has gone up. Right now it's decently difficult to get VT orders from P-3/P-8 land.

    NROTC vs AFROTC

If all you want to do is fly...OCS But understand the HUGE risk you take of there not being slots open. OCS is a very easy way for the Navy to flex to demand in a short period of time. In ROTC/USNA the navy has to project it's needs out 4 years. If they read the demand signals wrong and they...

I dont discount they would fight ferociously... and I have every bit of respect for how they performed in the War, that said its a much different game now. The Iraqi military was billed the same way in '91. These guys were supposed to be experts of desert warfare, and battle hardened after 10...

Second this. Do we really think N. K. is going to go full retard? They may keep their people in the dark but KJU knows full well what would happen. This is nothing more than flexing and posturing. No doubt they are being indignant over the nuke stuff, but they aren't going to start a major...

    P-8 Selection

That sounds like it might be for VP-30 to support squadrons in other locations. Unless something changed operational Jax squadrons are all supposed to transition first, then the west coast squadrons.
  10. statesman

    P-8 Selection

True. Even if the transition schedule isn't delayed at all, you're looking at 2 more years of P-3s in Jax. That assumes exactly ZERO delays. I don't expect transition to go that well with all the budget mess thats going down now.

    P-8 Selection

Picking P-3s for nostalgia... not a good plan. I'm happy with my time in the P-3, it was awesome. Mostly because we had some awesome FEs that were a lot of fun to fly with. But given the choice I wouldn't choose P-3 over P-8, and I am beyond happy to get half a JO tour in the new hotness.

No its not that bad, but it also wouldn't be that hard to fix. It just points to the fact that parts of the airplane were ill conceived. You know as well as I do, that ALT UHF nonsense should never have been overlooked.

Did they just add P-8 to your dream sheet? When I went through they asked you VP or VQ, and then you found out right at wings. I assume now you can put VP (P-3), VP (P-8), and VQ. Is that accurate?

Australia requests authority to purchase 24 more Super Hornets

So did we, and we pulled those power levers back as soon as it was reasonable to do so. I'm not as concerned about wrecking an engine when 4 are working. But in the 3 engine scenario we were talking about, I'd be less inclined to tempt fate and go begging for a 2 engine by pushing the levers up...

With the number of engines I have seen shit the bed I don't know how comfortable I would be putting the power levers to the stops while 3 engine.... I don't even think I would run it at 1077 much longer than absolutely necessary unless ground impact was imminent.

The double anchors did it right in the back. The systems can do some pretty incredible things on station, but you also have to consider that a P-3/8 NFO knows a great deal less about actually flying the plane than say a Hornet/Growler FO. My favorite thing to do to a new NAV was to tell them we...

What Gator said. Even the P-3 is much better than it reportedly used to be. For example it used to be a question that instructors would ask "how many knots are on the aft door escape rope?" It's frustrating that we were able to get a low level operation switch that inhibits a lot of nuisance warnings down low, but we couldn't get a touch and go switch that would inhibit some warnings and keep the computer from having a shit fit.

Don't get me wrong. I love the plane, but there are some blaring examples of why NFOs should never be allowed to run the acquisition of an airplane. There are probably about half a dozen things that make you want to go on a rampage and murder the first 3 double anchors you see...

Its a configuration master warning while the flaps are tracking on the runway. Hard to get used to at first, but by the time you get to the plane you have seen it enough in the sim to expect it and tune it out.

They are having to beat the P-3 out of some people, but generally the P-8 side is 10x better. Those that attempt to hold onto the P-3 way of thinking are doomed, honestly there is too much to know that's not P-3 bullshit to focus on that old way of thinking.

I don't know anyone who is upset the P-8 had half the engines. This community is very aware that the CFMs have a 0.0000001% fail rate, and no pilot I know has ever looked back after they flew the P-8, even with a 24k derate take off.

Can't speak to the airlines, but we were initially told "the P-8s arent going to bounce". When the VX guys came down we mentioned that... they laughed. That said P-8s goal is on a 70/30 sim/flight training program as it stands.

Laps in the pattern. Just like in a T-34 or a Cessna. With the odd simulated 2 or 3 engine / no flap landing thrown in. We definitely don't bounce the P-3 at max gross weight. 103,880 is the highest we'll bounce at. I dont start transition until next month so I can't say for sure but I doubt...
