    RAF Hawk T2 in Kingsville

Seeing 287 in one of those pics warms the cockles of my heart, first solo and first trap in that machine. This thing have a radar, synthetic or otherwise?

    Advice for graduating mids

Don't play the "I don't know I'm just an Ensign" card often. It's fairly common knowledge you know nothing, strive to learn things you don't know, it will help you later. Share gouge with your classmates, nothing will get you shunned faster than being a buddy fucker.

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Anybody have good experience with leather conditioner's? I've been using this stuff I got from Wilson's leather on my jacket, its OK. Been reading about some stuff called Leather'n'rich, guess my next stop is the local leather joint. My jacket is pretty 'virgin' leather, trying to break it in...

    remember when helmets looked cool?

I had my o2 mask lifted from my locker at the RAG, I finally tracked it down after going through about 3/4 of the loft lockers one night and found out from some pr2 it was "surrendered" to an O5 who flew with the RAG squadron as a guest. Needless to say I liberated it and had the hard plastic...

How the fuck did that happen? They straight up took your helmet and gave it to someone else?

    no more manuals

To start yes, but not long after you will ditch the binders. There are procedures being written on crew responsibility as far as having it charged, daily responsibilities, etc. I personally am not a fan.

    no more manuals

Several airlines are going to this. American is testing right now, Eagle is getting them very soon. The main problem is the battery, some of them vent and that is a no-no, its getting fixed so the 10k altitude req. is no longer an issue. Will be pretty nice to not have to haul around 3 binders...

PAK-FA/T-50 makes its first public appearance

    a few snipers

Well I think I want to make a fun little hog killer out of it, I have a gunsmith friend that will do the work for a case of beer so I wouldn't have to invest much in it. Check out rocksolid industries, guy makes some really nice stuff for scope mounts and other goodies.

    a few snipers

I'd love to find a Finn M38. I have a 91/30 also, can't decide what I want to do with it. I know some purists would hate me, but I'm thInking of chopping the barrel down and tapping the reciever for a nice scope mount. It's not a numbers matching gun so I wouldnt feel bad about doing that to a...

    a few snipers

Is that a true mosin sniper? I've got an M44 that holds pretty tight groups, it also seems to shoot better with the bayonet extended for some reason. Always a crowd pleaser near sundown at the range, that thing spits the biggest fireball I've ever seen.

Viper earning the name "Lawn dart"

Ouch. Looked like he was moving at a pretty good clip compared to his partner right before him. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one though, right? In all seriousness, glad the dude is a-ok.

    remember when helmets looked cool?

+1. I hated the new mask, I made a good impression with the PR's and they hooked me up with the old school one. The new style would always "stick" on the exhale and I had to forcefully blow into it to get it to work properly no matter how many times I had it "inspected" by the PR's, plus the...

    Airborne Leathers brand G-1 Jackets...

I couldn't find a direct answer through a seach of the jumbo jacket thread, but has anyone tried or been successful swapping their leather for a new one a few years after getting it issued with supply in Pcola?

    Airborne Leathers brand G-1 Jackets...

I'm nearly certain the one I was issued in spring of '07 is either melted down plastic or came off a cow's ass who's been rubbing barbed wire for the last 15 years. I called some of my buds who got theirs around the same time and its 50/50 split on good vs shitty jacket.

    Airborne Leathers brand G-1 Jackets...

Anybody had any experience with these? I came across their ad in a magazine, jumped on their website and it was very limited with info, pretty much just a mail order company with an online ad, http://www.airborne-leathers.com/. Reason I am asking is I want to get a jacket as a gift for a family...

Best and worst experiences with flight instructors

It was big boy rules when I was there, and the ridcule/harrasment package was very minor to almost non existent. Best and worst experiences with flight instructors

I don't have a dog in this fight other than to piggyback on RAG experiences, but one of the Rhino RAG's was the absolute worst experience in my life and for my entire class as well. The best I was ever treated in my career was at Kingsville while an SNA, from the top all the way down they all...

    Getting into SELRES

Was talking about this today with guys at work. Seems in 2010 there was only 350 ish commercial tickets issued, that and the fact that alot of guys will be hitting the number around the 2012/13 change seems to indicate there will be a heavy need for stick monkeys.

Question for vets regarding technical degrees and non-related military experience...

I would diversify yourself as best as possible, give yourself the most options post-military. I did that with my degree, even though it was still related to aviation, it wasn't necessarily related to me being a pilot. PM me if you want the details, but I had a job within 3 weeks of leaving...

    Centennial Paint Schemes

The 122 rhino was painted in house by a few sailors. It took right around 2 months to do I think, but the jet they painted was a piece of shit low lot and was hard down for numerous reasons (IIRC) when they did it.

    Pilot to Med Corps

There is a P3 dude at Lemoore who is one, he works/worked in the phys building next door to the 'fuge. To echo all above I think its a scientific degree required deal, I would reference the USN's recruiting page for that designator's requirements.

Naval Aviation tradition in pilot training

We did the tie cutting in primary after your first solo, I bought my on-wing a bottle after my final primary flight, he was the IP for my flight. In advanced the bottles we bought were for our LSO after initial CQ, for the various beta you make with um about your CQ performance.

Anyone have this book yet? It's on the CONA

He was in Lemoore awhile back shooting photos for it, there was a gaggle with the CAG bird from each squadron out here on one big ass photo ex that produced some pretty epic shots. Haven't seen the entire book but the VFA stuff I saw was pretty sweet, he was a hell of a nice guy too.

FNAEB or Voluntarily Terminate Flight Status..?

That was along what I was thinking. If a dude has an engine explode on his airplane/helo and handles it IAW NATOPS, it then turns into class A because of damage, he's gonna get a FNAEB by default yes? Wouldn't that show that this applicant may be someone they would want to hire since he has...

I lived in Apple Creek. I would HIGHLY AVOID it unless you want to end up on border wars. Only thing that will get you is the civ IFR rating. Gotta have a current NATOPS qual to bypass the civ BFR. BFR's are totally painless, its not a check ride but more of a sanity check, you already have your license and its a CFI that signs the logbook stamp, not an examiner. All my civ BFR's...

Whidbey Island Navy Flying Club / General Aviation in the PNW

Look into Regal Air out of PAE. Did all my flying there, they are a little pricey but their cessna's are top notch, from a 152 to a glass panel. If you don't mind making the trip down the island and a ferry ride, they are about 15 mins from the mukilteo dock.

Any tall dudes out there in the E-6 or F-18?

Its not so much your overall height, but either the torso or butt-knee length that get's the tall dudes. I knew a few that were the same-ish height as me but had long legs or long torso's and got anthro'd out of pointy nose land.

Size does matter...Are you too big for the cockpit?

Every one of those ten traps slammed my knees into the panel, each time I got out of the jet I was bleeding badly. The boss actually saw me rubbing my knees as I was getting gas on deck and asked me if everything was OK in there, rogered up with a hearty yes sir.

Yep you should be good. Just be ready to back it up with proof if you ever get it audited or whatever.
