    Advice for graduating mids

I have founds bits and pieces all over the forum, but want to consolidate it all here. I've made it a habit recently of asking people I meet who either is/was an enlisted/officer for a straight, real-world, no BS, piece of advice for a middie about to graduate. What the most important thing you...

    Service Assignment

I have heard the same information as above. Boards are meeting now and results are shooting to be released Oct. 15, probably the week after since it's a Saturday this year. It is the Navy though, so my advisor told us not to worry unless we haven't heard by November 1. Needless to say, the...

How is the NROTC program at these schools?

I haven't been paying too much attention, but I haven't noticed many other patches for other alma maters. I'm sure they exist though...?

How is the NROTC program at these schools?

I should switch REAL with TRADITIONAL. I won't argue that JU has some good academics and they love the navy. It's a good place if you're on scholarship. I'm a CP/Advanced Standing mid so that's why I switched. But as far as a "traditional" college life like at UF, UM, UGA, *other "state...

How is the NROTC program at these schools?

I did a year at the one with 3,500 students that cost me $19k a semester, then I transferred to the one without a football team. Or I could have gone to the community college that just started offering 4 year degrees. Jacksonville University versus University of Michigan. Definitely a difference.

How is the NROTC program at these schools?

Avoid Jacksonville at all costs! The unit is pretty decent, but none of the three schools are REAL colleges.

    Suggestions for selecting Navy Pilot?

More often than not, yes. Those who wanted to be pilots but were NPQ'd or didn't make the selection "get stuck" with a SNFO desig. But that's only among the ignorant mids who see FOs only as second fiddle players to pilots. I certaintly won't be disappointed if my selection comes back 1370.
  9. cameron172

    Suggestions for selecting Navy Pilot?

Does prior flight time really count for selection from the Academy? From the NROTC side, I haven't even been asked if I have time logged. A CFII has the same chance as someone who thinks you steer on the taxiway with the stick.

    NROTC Marine Option without Scholarship

We have Marine Option CPers who do everything the Marine Options Mids do, but there is no advanced standing for the Marine side. You must be picked up for a Marine scholarship to remain in NROTC and commission. OP, the Navy has the LREC (Language Skills, Regional Expertise, and Cultural...

    MIDN Trip to Pcola/Jax

True. It's easy to get antsy to graduate and take the three day weekends and college life part of ROTC for granted.

    MIDN Trip to Pcola/Jax

It'd probably be the Mon and Tue of spring break with plenty of time to head down to Daytona for the rest. I'm not sure about the others, but I get my fair share of beer drinking at the Jax beach bars during the other 51 weeks of the year.

    MIDN Trip to Pcola/Jax

I'm a senior in the Jax ROTC and I'm planning a trip to Pensacola sometime in the spring with a small group (5 to 8) of mids to tour the flight school. We did this last spring and was able to get some simulator time, meet with studs and IPs, tour flight lines and ATC and just ask a lot of...

Prior enlisted to NROTC. anyone else in my shoes?

Depends on what you're majoring in when you're a mid too. 85% of scholarships and advanced standing spots are given to mids majoring in tier 1 and tier 2 majors. 15% go to tier 3. https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/scholarship_criteria.aspx

Prior enlisted to NROTC. anyone else in my shoes?

(Just a Mid's 2 cents) It's my last year in NROTC and the leadership, professionalism, and mindset I've developed (and continue to develop) as a soon-to-be officer is based mainly on what I've learned from the active duty guys with the experience and the willingness to share that experience...

    Retest?

To echo brenbuck, I would retake it. Although you have a really competitive GPA, I would study and try to get a more competitive OAR too. With the economy the way it is, the Navy isn't exactly hurting for RL officers. So if you go in with the highest scores you can get, the more it'll help...

    NROTC Scholarship Chance?

I'll tell you that your application does look competitive. Good grades, well rounded, and some leadership experience. You look like a lot of the guys I know in my unit who are currently on scholarship. I will also say that things have changed in the three years since they got their scholarships...

What's my chances of getting the NROTC scholarship?

I think it still matters too. I learned a lot in the Scouts and during my Eagle project that formed the base for my character and morals. (Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, etc...) I have more in common with other Eagle scouts I meet than those who were never in scouts. I'm saying that I...

Wow! I'm looking at some of the older posts and it seems like using this site is the key to blowing the test out of the water! I got an 8/8/8 67 after studying this web site like the Bible. What's my chances of getting the NROTC scholarship?

I'm an Eagle Scout too (fourth generation Eagle in family) and unfortunately, I have found that it doesn't impress much outside of summer camp staff. I'm not saying being an Eagle doesn't mean anything anymore, but you need to have a lot more to make you stand out. Honestly, I've seen dirt bags...

    Pilot to Med Corps

I have a Bachelor in Business Mgt. But like the guy Helolumpy knows, I could probably get the navy to pay for one of the required degrees once I really start thinking about it. That's like the LT I met at ASTC, but I can't figure out he did it.

    Pilot to Med Corps

Specifically, physiology. Is there a way to work in aerospace physiology without completely redesignating to medical? Would you need a four-year medical degree to do so? I've seen a few O-3s who have done this but wasn't able to ask them. Does anyone know when/how the switch could be made?

    Budget Cuts and NROTC Commissions

We had a few Ensigns who recently commissioned originally get orders to IRR for several months, then a month before graduation, they get orders to report to Pensacola within three weeks. I've also been told the NSS was super high a few months ago, and now they're hurting for pilots. Who knows...

Air force ROTC vs. Naval ROTC

As with anything in life, it is what you make of it. Those in my unit who decide they're having a "bad" experience usually drop from the program and shouldn't wear bars on their shoulders anyway. A lot of people join and few commission. Nothing against these people, it's just not for them.

NROTC for Naval Aviation at (preferably) San Diego State University

I don't believe NROTC to be any easier than other commissioning sources. They all have their own perks and challenges. Having "typical college" roomates who constantly drink and smoke and rarely sleep before 5am while you have to get up at 0430 for PT makes for a long four years.

The side load scholarship is the full schoarship in itself. Advanced standing is a whole seperate status/program.
