How long do you have between commissioning and reporting?

    IRR it is !!!

Yes. I got word today from my LT that I'm medically cleared. Orders have been "trickling" in for the SNA and SNFO types graduating this spring.

    Smartphones the norm?

I feel like an important businessman with my Blackberry, even though I'm getting pointless facebook notifications and emails from that one place I ordered from three years ago. The ladies are impressed.

    Pensacola API/Primary living situation.

I'm headed to Pensacola in the summer and like this place. But I've heard that Governor's Gate is overrun by noisy UWF college kids and that they're not too military friendly. Have you experienced any of these issues?

NROTC College Program As A Non-Traditional Transfer Student

NavyOffRec, do you know why this is? Paying a Junior's tuition for two years and sending them on one cruise is cheaper than paying for a Freshman's four years of tuition and three cruises.

NROTC College Program As A Non-Traditional Transfer Student

I also transferred to my ROTC unit as a sophomore on college program. They asked for my SAT/ACT scores but were more concerned with grades I made in my first year of college than high school. By your junior year, you'll either have to pick up a two-year scholarship or be selected for Advanced...

    Housing in Pensacola

I'm sure you won't have any problems finding other Academy/ROTC graduates moving out in May/June. I expect to be arriving in September, so if you still have some spots to fill, let me know.

    ROTC or OCS?

I'm a senior NROTC mid about to commission in April, so anything I say about OCS is what I've heard. Yes, I'll say grades in my 18.5 credit hours would be better if I wasn't waking up at 4:30am every morning and having classes until 9pm. And I wouldn't have to take 18.5 if I didn't have to...

Any current or recent API Geo Bachelors?

Somewhat related question: What do people use as their permanent address when active duty? Do you go through the hassle of changing it on your license/bank statements/official stuff every couple years when you PCS?

    OCONUS Leave After Commissioning

I am expecting them to since no 1390/70 types from ROTC are expecting to commission into the Individual Ready Reserve this year. I'll be assigned to probably my NROTC unit as a coffee Ensign until September. But I've learned to not hold my breath...we'll see.

    OCONUS Leave After Commissioning

Since I didn't want to risk my trip deposit on the command not approving the leave to Israel (LTs said "fat chance"), I changed it to a twelve day trip to Greece, assuming my report NLT date is approved.

    OCONUS Leave After Commissioning

I plan to commission from NROTC in late April and plan to take leave in July assuming my requested report date to Pensacola (Sept 20) is approved. I am hoping to go on a three-week mission trip to Israel with my church. Will there be an issue getting my leave approved to a country that is on...

    IRR it is !!!

I got a call from my advisor today asking when I wanted to report to Pensacola. He gave me the choice between May 10 and June 15 or between Sept 20 and November (date?) if we have a reason, like plans for leave in my case. We'll see what the detailer actually gives me. He confirmed with me that...

Running on the Beach (hard sand and or dirt trail)?

When you run on nature trails, do you feel the soleus muscles being worked? For a pavement/track runner, I did a fair amount of natural surface running with roots and uneven surfaces the other day and my soleus muscles on the outer side of the leg down by the ankles are sore. Makes sense they'd...

Running on the Beach (hard sand and or dirt trail)?

A lot of people don't realize that the muscles associated with injured areas are a major part of the problem. I developed patellar tendinitis last year and the athletic trainer I went to just gave me some stretches and quadricep strengthening exercises. Only once did that muscle get a bit...

    Doc panel for Jax Mids

I get this loud and clear. Several of the mids with issues/questions said they would rather hear answers straight from the docs. I assumed they had searched high and low for their issues, but the link in ***NAMI Medical Waiver Guide*** seems to be what the docs would tell us anyway. I'll forward...

Running on the Beach (hard sand and or dirt trail)?

I got some kind of discontinued New Balance stability shoe. A little heavy for my liking but I'm about due for a new pair anyway. I do have high arches, so that's why I overpronate in neutral shoes.

    Doc panel for Jax Mids

Wanted to take my chances and appeal to any of the Docs on the forum who are in Jax. We're trying to get two or three flight docs to donate some time and come in to talk with and answer questions for the aviation-minded Midshipmen at JU. PM me for info if interested.

Running on the Beach (hard sand and or dirt trail)?

I'm not sure how good/bad dirt and sand is for you. But I had the tibia discomfort when I started running with NROTC a couple years ago. No matter how little or far I ran, it always hurt on the inside of the shin bone for days. I went to a doc and he said I had shin splints and gave me calf and...

    Help! ASTB Anxiety...

I got a 8/8/8 67 on my first attempt. This. I would study practice problems for a week and then take a full length test (in the Barron's and Arco) with a timer at the end of the week. I would see what I needed work on and spent another week on those, then took another timed full length test. I...

    NROTC service selection question

It is. JU found out about this time last year and there was a mass exodus from physics and computer science majors to Aviation Management majors without the need for reapplying for the scholarship because they're both now Tier 2. Big Navy was duped since the aviation program is a business...

    NROTC service selection question

This. To be selected SNA, you have a better chance if you have a 3.5 GPA as a business major than a 2.5 GPA as an aerospace engineering major.

    NAVY Initial Flight Screening (IFS)

These are received loud and clear! But I'm just curious how much FAA regulations are covered in IFS if Navy follows NATOPS instead? I get that IFS is a civilian flight school that gets you to your solo, but all the civilian student pilot training I've received in the past has been fairly heavy...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

It seems too simple of a question to look up in the PHAK...They refine the statement to "The sum of all upward forces equal the sum of all downward verses." Likewise "The sum of all forward forces equal the sum of all backward forces." (p.4-2). If thrust is more than drag, you accelerate and if...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Here's a question in most study books (ASTB, FAA private, etc) that I've memorized the answer but still don't understand... "What is the relationship between lift, drag, thrust, and weight when an airplane is in straight-and-level flight?" Answer: "Lift equals weight and thrust equals drag"...

    Flight Hours Toward Pilot Slot

Hours/ratings are not considered in NROTC selection scores, so I've been told not to waste my money when the Navy will just pay for the training anyway. But I would take any advantage I could get in my score and make the $10k-ish investment for a ppl.
