    Re: former Pres. Clinton

I disagree. He puts a couple of Americans in jail, we jump through hoops to get them out. He gets what he wants, which is to make us react to him. Probably no long term significance, though.

"He's a former president not acting in any official capacity, so it doesn't really matter what he promises. I'm really disturbed by the folks that would rather see the two women stay in prison or us take military action with nuclear power, than send a figurehead to pal around for a photo op. "...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

I think it's reasonable that treatments that are very unlikely to help be paid for by the patients, even thought the doctor is getting paid for performing the service; there is an underlying assumption (or there should be) that the doctor has made it clear that the treatment in question is...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

If they are going to provide more treatment for the same overall cost, or the same treatment for less cost, then the only way to do it is cut out unnecessary expenses. I think that there are several ways to do that that don't require "national health care": Limit the malpractice industry...

DanMa, Our platoon leader had us listen to "Patton's speech" before every parade to get us psyched up. Current events involving the USN and USMC in particular, and the military in general, would be good to go over - you could incorporate the award citations, etc. in there.

They could have put a depiction of a topless model on it, in reference to the slides they used to put in the recce training so that people would pay attention. But I guess that wouldn't "fly" in today's Navy.

    Nukes for hamburger meat....

I don't think it's a one-way street, I just think it benefits them significantly more than us at this point which is why I think it should be tied to other issues. "Few"? I would say in the range of several (3-5) at once. That would significantly limit the threat from the Iran's and NoKor's.

    Nukes for hamburger meat....

"just prohibitively expensive to create an effective and reliable system against ICBM's" I disagree with that, if the goal is shooting down up to a "few" missiles. "there is very little 'linkage' to other issues." Then why do something that benefits them more than us? It will be seen as...

I don't think they will "act in concert." They both have plenty to gain individually relative to the United States. They will each take advantage of American weakness/perceived American weakness/unwillingness for America to act, regardless of what the other does.

  38. E

    Nukes for hamburger meat....

This appears to be a very poor decision. Making the maximum amount a significantly smaller figure makes it much easier (less expensive) for the Russians to maintain parity. Why reward them with that? After what they have done the past 2-3 years? And what about the numbers vs China?

Honduran Democracy -- Central American style ...

Other countries condemning an action is not a good basis for determining either the "rightness" or the "legality" of the action. It appears that the military was, in fact, "defending the constitution", but went a little too far in the process they used. Removing him from office was appropriate...

    Protests in Iran

    Protests in Iran

Not if the "reformists" are the first step. I suspect that a new government would be much more likely to actually negotiate than the current government is. And if Iran gets nuclear weapons, expect more of the same from other nations in the area.
  45. E

    Protests in Iran

It is pretty naive to think, after the past five years, that this Iranian government is going to be willing to negotiate away their nuclear weapons, or is going to be willing to negotiate away their support of terrorist organizations. So comments from the President are not going to "make the...
