Just curious, when you are approaching the carrier, how do you get horizontal guidance? I know the ball gives you vertical guidance relative to the glide-slope and you are supposed to fly the ball and avoid looking at the deck, but then how are you aware of your position relative to the centerline?

You do not need a PPL, and unless you already have one or are close to getting one it isn't worth it because the benefits are minuscule.

I'm no recruiter, but from what I've read they recommend that you try blowing your ASTB scores out of the water first, since the scores matter more to the Board than GPA and it is cheaper/faster than taking more classes. But I'm sure NavyOffRec or RUFiO will chime in if I'm wrong.

Yeah I asked NavyOffRec and he said the same thing, you must go to MEPS and have a PQ letter from N3M before you can be seen by the Board.
