    Flying Suspended At Vance

yea, i guess there was a lot of stuff we missed...we didn't get notified of it until 15 minutes before it started.

    Flying Suspended At Vance

Yesterday, the picketers extended all the way from the industrial gate, on that dirt road, and slightly down Cleveland street. My question is, why is the pool shutdown, the gym/library on reduced hours, etc. I didn't think they were all unionized as well?
  3. torpedo0126

    Flying Suspended At Vance

it means no one is going to graduate, and no one is going to start. Classes start every three weeks, and right now there are 6-8 Navy and 2-4 Marines every class. So a definite back-up could start. This is if things don't get resolved soon...which can't be too long.

New way to memorize your EPs

yea...you'd be surprised. something as simple as taking out a pencil quickly turns into a monster task when you are stressed out.

    Flying Suspended At Vance

Thats a good question. I will ask. I am pretty sure they said something about only coming in through a certain gate, but I am not sure if that applies to them coming on base. ***For incoming Navy/Marines to Vance. We just got Word an hour or two ago that if the strike continues they are going...

    Flying Suspended At Vance

just for clarification...the LSI (sim instructors) are NOT on strike. It is only the flightline guys.

Anybody who had a tough time in primary do well in advanced care to share his secret?

Don't know if this helps at all, but, statistically, since the Navy CO of the 8th FTS at Vance took over (roughly 1.5 year ago)--the washout % of Vance students in Advanced has been 0%. Don't know if thats true, but thats what he relayed to us.

    Flying Suspended At Vance

So from this I'm gathering that the contractors went on strike because the company rebid the contract, except this time with fewer workers? its not that the company is trying to charge an outrageous price, they are just increasing the productivity per worker?
  9. torpedo0126

    Flying Suspended At Vance

Right on. It seems like every LSI (sim guy) here flew multiple airframes and are retired O-5s/O-6s. All the LSI guys also get two rides a year in the T-6 so they provide excellent instructio on what to expect. Get through OCS and API first. No need to rag on Vance. Its not that bad at...

    Flying Suspended At Vance

Actually, from what we've been told, I might have to give the AF props. We were told that the contract was negotiated by the DoD and NOT the AF. If the strike is not resolved quickly, AF 'said' they are going to step in and either pay more or invent a new solution. However, that info was...

    Flying Suspended At Vance

For those of you on your way to Enid, flying has temporarily been suspended. Vance has about ~1400 contractors (to ~400 active duty); most of which decided to go on strike today. Apparently, when the company (or companies) that provides fuel, fire fighting etc. originally bid for the contract...

fascinating story...I received copies of the MIDN log book. I can send it to you if you want. According to the MIDN log, a fight broke out on the seventh floor over a poker game. This triggered a room search. Consequently, the 17" dildo was found. The logbook was out of control too, "All is...

    No malpractice for servicemembers?

back in NROTC, went to Japan on a cruise. the MIDN who were on the ship before us were given vaccinations because of some flu strain that was going on over there (don't remember exactly). Debt relief for new service members

I just brought this up on another thread...I'm sure its been brought up before, but just in case... make sure if you are coming into the service with debt to check out your eligibility for the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act. http://www.military.com/benefits/legal-matters/scra/overview There...

SIDE NOTE: if any of you are coming in with credit card debt, remember there is some sort of mandatory program called something like the 'servicemember's civil relief act' that you should take advantage of. basically, you let your credit card companies know you are active duty...you will have...

    Commissioning Loans?

if you are looking just to get a car with the USAA loan then don't. With the deals you can find now, you can probably get good car financing at 0.0% for awhile. if you are taking the loan out to invest, this would be the time to do it. the market 'seems' to be hitting a bottom (at least...

    Anthro Measurements

Now this should be only be used as a benchmark, but you pre-commissioning physical should have given you an 'idea' if your qualified or not (since the physicals should have been pre-screened by NAMI). You may find out your not qualified for certain aircraft when you get to P-cola though.

Question about Tiers / Chances of getting NROTC Scholarship

This is a very dangerous thing to say to hopefulls...I also know people who were denied. That is anecdotal at best. You should speak directly with the NROTC unit your looking at. Not necessarily true at all. There is process, yes (involving both CO's and the Navy) But expensive schools like...

Question about Tiers / Chances of getting NROTC Scholarship

not many people get jobs in the field they majored in...at my school ~85% of engineers went on to hold non-engineering jobs (lots of consultants). Very few engineers overall go on to be design engineers. IE is applicable on so many levels, I don't understand how your "friend" could say there...

its been awhile since I went through the whole application process...does prior drug use weigh in on the application, or just the security clearance, or Both?
  35. torpedo0126

How demanding is the NROTC program?

Actually... I think several of us were confused about that. If you are a junior in high school you are right on schedule. You can probably start the online application process now. You can always get AWARDED the scholarship and decline. The Navy also gives you a 'free year' in that you can...

    Run Around to Get Commission

I didn't get that feeling from him really... I think more or less the point is that becoming a Marine is far more important than just having an air contract. Although I am not in the Marines, I can tell you if you let it be known around other Marine that you don't want to be a "ground pounder"...

    PTAD, TBS dates, jobs, etc

I am not a Marine, but two of my friends who just completed TBS both had orders to show up within a week of there start date. They also told me that there were a bunch of people who had been there for awhile just waiting in Mike Company. Sounds like the OSO is probably is right.
  38. torpedo0126

How demanding is the NROTC program?

Its looking like it might be too late for you to do NROTC in college. You should probably look into OCS or BDCP.

Question about Tiers / Chances of getting NROTC Scholarship

    Which spray

I was med down for a few days (DNIF here with the Air Force) with congestion. They prescribed me that exact product. if you passed your high school calc classes, I don't think its really that you don't have the ability at all. you just haven't made the high school => college transition. For me at least, I could show up in high school, pay half attention in class, not study at all, and get an A. In college...

also, don't stay at the BOQ if you don't have to. As an SNA you won't receive reimbursement for it until you reach primary--which could be several months. Also, it can create complications too, as PSD was confused how it was documented...I stayed in the BOQ for 2 weeks yet the orders were...

Hey fellas, OUSOONER inbound to PCola with questions

I think the OP has it right. Assuming you have orders to NASP right away, you'll need ~2-3 weeks to be API ready (since your IFS complete). Then you will have plenty of time to take leave. If you want, you could get TAD orders cut to some recruiting station by your house. Then you won't lose...

I don't think the age waivers will be a problem. I know people much older than you (relative sense) that are in the program.
