    NFO to Pilot during college?

Interesting word choice... Anyways, I have never encountered anyone who redesignated prior to getting to Pensacola. Perhaps it is possible, but there are other avenues to pursue first... In fact, I am not sure I understand your question. If you are in applying for STA-21, why don't you just...

If you are starting college or 2 years in, I would DEFINITELY pursue NROTC before BDCP.

Ahhh...wanting to get that extra chest led I see? I was right there with you... getting into jump or dive school will be next to impossible...I tried for several months while I was stashed. Unless your in the Army, or get it as a reward for an enlistment bonus, there are simply no funds to send...

    Lasik/PRK

Knowing what I know now and after undergoing the PRK procedure, I would STILL take PRK over LASIK. The results w/ Wavefront are the same if not better than LASIK AND--the biggest thing--your eye structure is not permanently weaked.

Where the heck can I go?

I spoke with a student who selected -53s a few weeks ago and he said the selection spots are ~12 a year. Not sure of the accuracy of that. Can't it pull like 5Gs or something? I know they probably don't go that route...I'm trying to find where I read that...

Please tell me I'm not crazy...

I am not a doctor, nor your doctor, but I would highly recommend against that. These are your eyes, and possibly a critical element to your career. Just like being sick, R&R is going to make the healing process better. Stressing yourself out with work and stuff isn't going to help. Lay around...

Also, if you are anything like me, I needed moisture drops for a long time after the surgery. I was rewetting ALL the time within 2-3 weeks after the surgery. If you are of a lower diopter, you will probably be seeing 20/20 they day after the surgery. However, this is after they've put in...

    VANCE - Facts about Primary?

When I reread my post I realized it was a little misleading. Its 60˚ from the break to the final turn. Then 30˚ (45˚ if needed) for final turn to final.

    VANCE - Facts about Primary?

They just upped it as of last week from 200kts to 230 kts. And yes, I should have specified like Godspeed said, they have an inner/outer. Its more complex because you have to pay attention a lot more to other's radio calls. For example, say you land and do a touch and go and want to request a...

    VANCE - Facts about Primary?

Interesting stat...The CO of the 8th FTS (I think he turns over shortly) told us that Vance students get their 1st choice 5% more than Whiting/Corpus (not jets, first choice). He also said--and which is more important to me--is that in the last 1.5 year since he had been there, there was a 0%...

First spin = Airsick. What's next?

I could be wrong, but he might be talking about 100% O2 AND flipping it to emergency for the 'positive pressure.' I thought that helped a lot too...didn't get rid of everything, but forcing the cool air in made the throw-up feeling disappear.

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

I spoke with my friend again last night, and I brought up the SWO pin helo pilot, and he confirmed that will be getting his pin. He said it varies by CO and that another ship hes been on does not allow it. Like Flying Low, this is simply what I was told. Well, when you open a topic up for...

    Waiver advice for hypertension

First of all are you having trouble with systolic, diastolic or both? I also struggled with my blood pressure when originally applying for my NROTC scholarship and subsequent flight physicals. For four years I thought that I had high blood pressure...when in fact, that is somewhat ridiculous...

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

then I meant SWO board, sorry, I was half interested in the conversation. maybe its bad gouge, but he told me that he was getting pinned as long as he passed the board, and that he would be going before the SWO board shortly.

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

I don't think so, he just wants to know if selecting the P-8 will be an option around the time he gets commissioned. Also, I don't believe having a TS clearance now will help you at all. Most people start the process at the beginning/end of primary anyways.
  27. torpedo0126

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

I certainly did not mean it that way. Hell, if I manage to finish up flight school I would interested in earning a SWO pin too! The thing I was trying to mention is that I believe neither have you have attended OCS yet, earned a commission or become an intel officers, but your asking the...

First spin = Airsick. What's next?

I actually spoke with a flight doc this morning about airsickness. She said that she counsels people to eat 'bagels, saltine crackers, or whole wheat bread' and hour before the flight. No fruits, vegetables, meat etc, except the three above items. Those 3 absorb the acid in your stomach that...

    Flying Suspended At Vance

The people coming here thinking they are going to have a bad time, interestingly, have a bad time. If you show up with a PMA, get over the style difference, its fine. I also think--my opinion--that put around non-military people, a lot of the anti-Vance stuff would become its 'not that bad'...
  31. torpedo0126

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

you might be right...thats why I said it might just be a ship/command thing. My friend is at SWOS right now (spoke with him last night) and this (coincidentally actually) my friend mentioned. He said it was one helo pilot and the OOD board didn't grill him as much because they knew he was...

    Flying Suspended At Vance

Vance is not bad at all. Training is efficient despite having a different style. Sims and CAIs. Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

Also, RESIST the temptation to get caught up in the 'chest candy' already. Make it through OCS first, then your intel school, and work hard at 'moving to the right' on your FITREPs. Face the fact that as a non-prior ENS your going to have that little 'pizza stain' on your chest for...

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

Its still allowed for aviators but it depends on the ship/command. I have a friend on the Blue Ridge over in Japan, and he said the helo pilots will sometimes do it...they usually make the 'board' easier because they know they are an aviator and won't be the OOD very often. I imagine you would...

actually, i think that might be part of it...are there any other people in your class who are STILL going to Vance? like I said, classes start every three weeks and 1-2 people come every week from API. With no new classes starting, there could be a build up pretty quickly. There are rumors...

you can lift in flight school. reread his post. i don't feel like checking, but I think you are out of weight standards. assuming you are right that your 12% bodyfat is correct, you will get taped and be fine. the only problem is the way Navy/Marine Corps tape is pretty inaccurate and can...

Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

This is probably next to impossible to answer. Both Navy and Air Force have challenging selection and training programs, so its not going to be 'easier' to become a fighter pilot in either. Also, fighter slots change on a weekly basis. Sometimes they need plenty of people for the pipeline...

Stimulants, supplements, crew rest and that dang Circadian Rhythm

This is kind of a ridiculous question. Yes you can. However, if you are jacked and don't make height/weight standards then you should adjust your routine. Dietary supplements, i.e. protein shakes, creatine are severely restricted if not outright forbidden. Also, since being sent to JSUPT...
