    iPod is totally worth it

I was way behind the ball and just got an iPod for working out the other day. If you haven't done it yet, get one ASAP. Push ups are now cake. Situps are cake. Running is only about half as bad as it was before. I recommend the Mike Tyson's Punchout theme song as a good motivator on...

    BDCP: My gouge

Good luck guys. I may not be able to do OCS at all because my wrist surgery is turning out to be a total disaster. I had my bone spur removed almost 2 months ago and my range of motion is still suffering. I'm doing loads of physical therapy and trying to get my OCS date moved. Wish me luck.

The heat and humidity at OCS

I've been using the "pose technique" for running that's been discussed on here before. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a shot. Basically, the idea is that you run on the balls of your feet only because landing on your heals acts like a braking action.

    Paper-Airplane War!

Tip: open the game in two windows so the awesome tune can still play while you're throwing in the other window. Is it OK if I cheat and have my brother's summa cum laude Princeton University engineering grad (basically...smartest person ever) show me what to do? I blow at the game. Edit: by...

    May 19th OCS class

How/why did yours get moved? I'm in the process of trying to get mine moved back because of a botched wrist surgery.

Short story about friend defending himself...

Why did the criminal try to break in when there were plenty of people in the house? Also, sounds like the judge did not have much sympathy for your friend. Why not?

    Paper-Airplane War!

You're smart. I went with the skinniest plane, max weight, no elevators for the least wind resistance. I then had the guy cannon it as much as the game would allow at about a 35 degree angle. That method peaks out at about 30 meters unfortunately.
  9. CaptainRon

    Paper-Airplane War!

That's actually pretty fun. My best was 27.9 meters. Maybe we could have an honor system contest on here? Edit: This thing is addicting. With a few more tries, I got 30.4 meters.

The heat and humidity at OCS

That thing looks awesome. Unfortunately, I think I'll have to go with scoober and get the casio. Plus, John Candy wore one in Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.

The heat and humidity at OCS

I have a BDCP PRT coming up on May 19th. Gotta see what my exact time is. Don't have a watch or a measured path to run on. And look at my post. Geez...I'm not even in the Navy yet and I'm already throwing around acronyms. I can't even understand any posts on here that talk about things...

Tiger84, judging from your profile, it looks like you're in OCS right now. How is everything going with all the physical training?

The heat and humidity at OCS

I just ran a 1.5 mile run on a treadmill at my school's gym. I got 11:20...not too bad for a second semester senior who just started working out again, I guess. It was hot and humid as hell in there and that 1.5 miles was tough. If that 1.5 miles was hard, I imagine running 3 or so every day...

Passing out. Is that something you get booted for at the beginning, or is that something that you get used to over time?
  18. CaptainRon

So, what do you think about this?

Direct quote from my recruiter: "If you've got the GPA and the ASTB scores, you're gonna get accepted." So, she thinks those two are by far the most important parts of the application.

Anybody had a bone spur on their wrist?

Also, anybody had any luck with massaging scar tissue? There is a pretty solid mass forming around the incision. It's probably not helping the range of motion. I'm just praying it will go away.

Anybody had a bone spur on their wrist?

    I'm a righty, fortunately.:D
  21. CaptainRon

Anybody had a bone spur on their wrist?

It's been almost a month now since surgery and I have pretty much zero range of motion. Not healing at all. Would the Navy allow me to do knuckle push ups (if I am even able to do them) in OCS? Anybody seen this happen?
  22. CaptainRon

    Question

If that site no longer works, that is a real shame. That was crucial for so many of us when we studied for the ASTB.

WBC to protest VA Tech Funerals --Will GOD smite you???

The fun part about that is that 99.9999999999999999999% of the planet says that about Shirley and Fred Phelps and the gang, yet they always say the same thing right back. Of course, it's always in an incredibly obnoxious, "I'm right. You're wrong, you idiot" tone. In one interview, one of the...

Anybody had a bone spur on their wrist?

The doctor just informed me that I probably will not be able to do push ups again until mid May because of my surgery. With my BDCP PRT date of May 19th and an OCS date of June 30th, does anybody foresee this being an issue? Do you think they would allow me to delay the PRT for another few...

Anybody had a bone spur on their wrist?

I thought I had a ganglion cyst on my left wrist because I already had one removed from my right hand. I just had surgery on my left hand. Turns out it was actually a bone spur. Is there anybody out there who's had this who can PM me? I just don't want to get NPQ'd for this. My hand is in...

I know man. Not gonna disagree with that. On that note, time for another break from airwarriors.

Spatial Apperception Error in the Movie Happy Gilmore

Good way of looking at it. So if they were going by feel from missing a shoe, the director was right. If they were going by vision from the slant of not wearing a sneaker, then they would have been wrong according to our spatial apperception rules. No hard feelings man. To quote another Adam...

  32. CaptainRon

Spatial Apperception Error in the Movie Happy Gilmore

Now hold your horses here guys. You're right that missing the left sneaker would be like tilting your head to the left. Doing that would make the left side of the horizon seem higher and the caddy would guess that the ball would go right. They had it backwards in the movie.

Spatial Apperception Error in the Movie Happy Gilmore

  34. CaptainRon

Spatial Apperception Error in the Movie Happy Gilmore

I'm watching it on USA right now. Happy and his homeless caddy are crouched, reading the slope of the green. The caddy proceeds to say that the ball will break left. Happy says, "No. That's because you've only got one shoe on." They then show that the caddy is missing his left sneaker...

For those of us heading to OCS soon: how do you feel?

Masterbates, it's rare for me to laugh at something I read, but that was funny as hell. I lost it when I read that. Now I've just gotta keep my fingers crossed that you and the rest of the guys don't actually want to ruin our lives.

  37. CaptainRon

For those of us heading to OCS soon: how do you feel?

Really? Holy smokes. I never would have expected that. I'd assumed there was a no photo policy at OCS and that any DI would rather tear your head off than allow you to take a picture in his presence. By the way, are there any female DIs? Or is that not possible?
  38. CaptainRon

For those of us heading to OCS soon: how do you feel?

You're right. It really is unbelievable that we're getting a shot at this and getting paid for it.
  39. CaptainRon

For those of us heading to OCS soon: how do you feel?

I'd say I'm 30% really pumped/excited (always dreamed of doing something like military, CIA, FBI, etc.) and 70% sh*tting my pants. And...I know the Navy is a blast from reading on here and talking to all the guys I know who have done it in the past, but man...I'm going to miss college. I...

    Well, no NROTC for me

I concur with the above posts. You can't beat BDCP. The only issue is that unlike NROTC, you can't do it all four years, so you get less $$. When people ask me about it, I just tell them it's like ROTC, except I don't actually have to do anything. You also get a guaranteed SNA slot with...

    Stats and Scores

That's a terrific package other than those two. You should work on those two a little bit. Been slugging back a few too many brews in college?:D Don't worry...I was in horrendous shape before I applied and cranked myself into gear in time for the PRT. It can be done.

Quick Show of Hands for us SNA selects yet to go to Primary

It's true man. I just got back from Jamaica and I'd never step foot in that country again. Every minute or so you've got another drug dealer trying to sell you something, somebody trying to sell you something they made like a necklace, or an old man just simply begging for money. The police...

Not the best week for Subs...

Congratulations, man. It's a great feeling, isn't it? We are some of the lucky few who are getting a shot at not going to an office every day selling Dunder-Miffling products. I doubt I'll be stepping into a plane again until after OCS. The only reason I would pay for a few flying lessons...

Quick Show of Hands for us SNA selects yet to go to Primary

I'm just giving this a bump so we can maybe get a few more people who haven't seen it yet. Does 50/50 sound about right? I always assumed I'd be in the minority with no flight time.
