The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

What if we mounted lots of deathrays on one? Then give it an AEGIS system to run its deathrays and BOOM we get an invincible dirigible. Oh wait, it might fight off a swarm of missiles but it can't do anything against a stream of 20mm cannon shells. There goes my idea.

...from what I remember you can only get congressional nomination from YOUR district congressman. I don't believe the President is a nominating authority last I checked, although the VP and Senators representing your state definitely also are. Just a suggestion...it could really, really help...

    Navy Classes

you also get a really really boring class which is called intro to naval science. IMO it should be renamed intro to the Navy. You learn all this exciting stuff about various court martials, what the naval customs are...really gets you fired up at 0800 when your eyes are blazing red from a...

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

I'm curious though, I've heard for example that the RIO helps big time in target acquisition and study prior to the mission since the pilot can focus on navigation rather than target study. I've also heard that 14's can also Fast-FAC to call in Hornets which is also useful I'm sure. I've also...

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

Tom is my friend. He can run at Mach 2.3 and carries these really big metal things that go boom when you hit them too hard. But he can only fly when he sticks in his special battery called a "pie-lut." He's a real special guy. And unfortunately kev, jaeroses's air defense system wouldn't work...

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

F-14s were designed to ripple off Phoenix missiles to kill cruise missiles. Let's see the MiG or Sukhois try that. As for dogfighting...I don't believe I'm qualified to speak on the matter and I honestly don't know of course. But scuttlebutt says the Tom is a great bomber.

    College?

I'm curious, during ROTC, is it more important to be on varsity athletics or can you fill up leadership with ROTC positions? I mean, I'm in IM sports and I'm no couch potato, but there's no way I could make my school's teams, and I don't want to be a benchwarmer.

To clarify the "Naval" F-86 issue: The FJ-1 Fury by North American was the first operation USN jet fighter sqdn. It was the PREDECESSOR to the F-86. It was straight wing. The FJ-2/4 Fury was swept wing. It was based off the F-86 itself. There ya go. As for what Flash said...I kinda have to...

    Fresh Meat

My friend is a Marine Op who's about 6ft, and weighs only about 150. He's also always talking about drugs and came up with names like "BoyGeorge" and "EltonJohn" for his rifle. THe Marines are getting some really "outofthemold" types I guess.

    Food for thought ;-)

I've got a slightly different version: An F-15 is escorting a B-52 and is doing slow rolls around the bomber and making a general ass of itself. After his little aerial demonstration, he says: "Anything you can do, i can do better." The BUFF guys take up the challenge. The F-15 watches...and...

What equipment is the marine rifleman assigned?

what the? I don't know guns but KE is definitely 1/2m(v)squared. In other words, increasing v will have a proportionally larger effect than increasing m. But I've always thought rifle bullets did damage from the oscillation induced after it penetrated the body which tears the person apart as...

    Giants Game fly-over

That reminds me...we were all gathered outside my high school 2 yrs ago to commemorate one month after Sep 11 when a Blackhawk flew over twice. Some people were pretty freaked. It's weird, most "flybys" I've seen were planes on their way to a flyby. Never at an actual event.

Oh man gatordev is still here...AWESOME. Yeah I'm doing a presentation on the Seahawk and it was confusing with all the variants out there. Thanks for clearing the confusion gatordev. I don't think so...you could just have fat hands(j/k). Seriously, I also had nasty callouses on my hand from archery, I think, it's just what happens when you're skin is constantly getting puckered up and bunched up off your body.

What exactly does the Navy offer?

As far as I know, a suit can't hurt, but it might not mean anything. If you want to know NROTC proper civilian attire standards, that would be collared shirt(button down or polo is best), "nice" pants, like chinos or khakis, and a belt. Shoes, not sandals or sneakers. As long as you meet these...

    Some Good Ones...

God Tests Navy Seals Intellegence One day a squad of Navy Seals was making for an objective in their rubber boat. its still a high. It may make you a security risk if you get addicted to it. How wud u react to THAT...

    Laptops?

apples are sweet but they suck for games-and that's only b/c they don't make many for Apple. For everything else they pretty much humiliate their Pentium counterparts. It's really sad when you realize how many laptop innovations have come and still come out from Apple, yet PC's are still #1.

What exactly does the Navy offer?

I've gone through very little more than you but I'll try to help. Just things that a lot of other fourth class i noe have on the "wish they told us list." For one thing, you're guaranteed/forced(depends on how you look at this) an assignment into a "frontline" service. I don't think this is...
  45. V

    Previous Experimental Drug use

That's a new one...they should add that to the security checklist: 1)Have you experimented with recreational drugs? 2)Have you sniffed paint or glue? 3)Do you enjoy running to the point of exhaustion to give yourself a high?"

    Previous Experimental Drug use

Speaking seriously, you should make your own decision based on the fact that saying you've messed around with drugs(whether or not it was habitual) will hurt your chances.
