    233rd

Happy Birthday Marines! One of NYC's local FOX station news anchors is a former Harrier driver and a Lt. Col. in the Marine Corps Reserves. He and his team did a few short reports today from the deck of the USS Intrepid, which recently arrived in port after extensive renovations. The last vid...

I took these a long while back. The first set is from Grumman's museum in Long Island, the other from the National Air & Space Museum in DC. The Tomcat is apparently the 3rd one ever built.

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

Indeed. Supporting the men on the ground is the ultimate goal of all air forces, and the Corps in particular. All my comment really meant was, shit, the AF/Navy got theirs, why can't get the Marines get some? ;) :o [/wannabeism]

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

What happens when someone crashes an a/c? Do they get sent to the Antarctic/get their wings taken away/etc. if it was found to be their fault? ...and I'm assuming they'd be in the clear if it was something like a mechanical malfunction, correct?

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

Amazing story! It's a damn shame the Marines haven't had an A/A kill since 'Nam (not counting the one F-15C exchange pilot during the Storm). I always wondered why the Air Force was allowed to monopolize the airspace in the beginning stages of Gulf War I, and practically get all the kills...

    Osprey TH-57 pipeline

The contract I signed a few weeks back had the commitment for rotary at 6. The more and more I read about the missions of each individual USMC platform, the more attracted I am to assault support. Getting an Osprey slot in particular would be damn sweet.

    joining the military = selfish?

So I got into a lengthy argument with a female friend last night. I told her of my decision to enlist, and she started going off about how my loved ones will be worried when I'm in a warzone. Current Need for Pilots

It is my understanding that the Marines need pilots rather badly, as the Corps will be expanding to 200,000+ between now and 2012 or so. Everything comes in cycles though, so pretty soon things might get backed up after a huge influx of SNAs. Bottom line is apply as early as possible! You can...

Relax bud...I know you're anxious to find out how you did, but you have to have patience. The people at NOMI are all very busy, and I'm sure notifying applicants of their ASTB scores ranks pretty low on their priority list. I had to wait almost 3 weeks to get mine. :) I sent you a PM.

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

I always assumed VIFFing could aid in puling off some interesting maneuvers - not to the extent of the F-22's thrust vectoring maybe, but just enough to tighten your rate of turn or to cause your opponent to overshoot, etc. Would be kinda neat to see. Don't you wish the Harrier (or the...

Nice article. The Corsair is definitely my favorite prop-driven combat a/c. :thumbup_1 An interesting variant that never saw combat was the F2G ("Super Corsair"), which had a bubble canopy and a 4,300 hp engine. Its lower top speed and some lateral control issues is what prevented its...

The Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion Rack is what I have, and I love it. Of course you don't have to use it for hanging upside down.
