I think 'Fighter Pilot' is enjoyable if you take it with a grain of salt. While full of fake-drama, cheesy "plot", somewhat unrealistic dogfighting, and suspiciously advanced CGI used during briefs/debriefs, it's a decent popcorn muncher with some excellent aerial shots. I saw it at a Dome IMAX...

Personally I've never had the desire to become a Blue Angel, but I was always curious about how the whole process went. Do jet drivers apply for a spot while they're in fleet squadrons? And I'm assuming being a BA basically counts as a flying-billet shore tour, correct?

Personally I never understood why so many people diss(ed) their looks - I always thought it's one of the sexiest war machines ever made. When I was younger, the bent-wings and F-4 designation made me think it was an updated version of the WW2 Corsair.

The MEPS eye test seemed rather ghetto actually, which makes me a bit wary about its results. We'll see what happens during the flight physical when I take it next month.

There were two that I saw. Had a brief chat with one of them (a French Navy Lieutenant), and he seemed like a real good guy. Apparently once he goes back to his country's fleet, he'll be flying Rafale's (!).

I wasn't aware that Marines fly F-16s in the Adversary Squadrons. "Bogeys and Bandits" mentioned that they typically only fly F-5s (then again the book was written over 10 years ago). Cool.

1) As far as vision standards... If I took my first FP right before OCS and my vision was within reqs (20/40 or under), would it still have to be 20/40 or under during subsequent FPs at TBS and API? Or is it that once past the initial FP, the vision reqs would be more lenient? 2) Does it really...

A little update: I went through MEPS the other day, and they said my eyes were 20/20 (near and distant)?! Naturally I'm very skeptical...I'm going to have a proper flight physical sometime in July or August, and I'll see what the docs there say.

As stated above, your degree doesn't matter. I have a degree in Computer Art, and my OSO didn't even flinch when I told him (I'm applying for USMC). As for the ASTB, the math, physics, and reading sections are pretty much on a High School level so I doubt you'll have any problems with those...

I apologize if my question isn't clear, but that's not what I mean. I thought people don't go to NAMI for a physical until after commissioning (and right before API), but then I've read about people going right before or during OCS. What I don't understand is if everyone has to go to NAMI twice...
