    Single officers with dogs

I got a dog in Advanced. Honestly, it's not a big deal but for the following reasons: 1) I had friends in flight school who were dog lovers and were jumping over each other to keep her for me while on CCX. 2) I lived in a apartment complex that pooch friendly and had a dog park. She spent about...

    NAMI MOTION SICKNESS QUESTION, NPQ?

Hey man, I was airsick numerous times in Primary. The programs there will help you get through it. I HIGHLY discourage anyone from taking that phenegran + dexedrine combo that they give you. That stuff turns you into a zombie and disables your vestibular which does NOT enable getting over the...

Wearing Flight Suit on the Yard

Which is a huge problem. If the shoes have nothing better to do than bitch about flight suits then they need to get a life. Many problems I've seen with the Navy are cause by whiny-asses in command who have nothing better to do than complain about stupid shit when they ought to be affecting some...

    Failure the First Time Around

The MEPS physical and 'OCS phsyical' (read: flight phsyical) are 2 different things. The reason that everyone complains about the OCS physical is because it is done at a piss poor time when everyone is tired, run-down, and malnourished. Therefore, people who may have been borderline, but...

    Failure the First Time Around

I think there's a big difference between 'taking whatever you can get' before OCS (as opposed to being set on SNA/NFO and wanting that before you show up) and 'choosing another designator after being NPQ'd at OCS'. There's absolutely nothing wrong with someone wanting to be a Naval Aviator and...

    Failure the First Time Around

This is both wrong and right. I dont think you 'get' what he's asking. The "NAMI Whammy" comes from Pcola because that's where the office is, but can be initiated, and in most cases is initiated, during the OCS physical. That one is the most in depth and is done at a piss poor time IMO. My...

    Naval Academy - Divorced

Yeah no one is saying it's a bad a school. Just saying that, after 4+years in the Navy and while heading back into the Navy afterwards, I think a little freedom and fun on the Navy's dime is well-deserved and would be appreciated.

    TOP GUN Misunderstood

Agreed. The Navy and MWR's politics and policies have literally killed the O'Club. When Norfolk's Oclub ("largest naval station in the world" or whatever they call it), is open two hours a day and is outdone by the base galley then we have a problem. Pcola's O'club was doing pretty well last...

    Naval Academy - Divorced

There are other schools that you can do STA-21 at. 2 guys I knew from the HTs did it at University of South Florida or something like that. Even at the Citadel, the STA-21 deal blows the doors off being a Midshipman at the boat school.
  17. J

    Naval Academy - Divorced

THIS! STA-21 for you AD enlisted guys is a GREAT deal. No way in hell would I go to the Academy when I could go to a regular college, have fun, drink beer, get laid, and live it up for 4 years....oh...and get it all paid for by Big Navy.

That may be one of the differences in communities. I'd be interested to see the comparisons between the 'average' helo/p3/jet guy's hours.

Well, that and VERTREP. I dont really see a machine doing that anytime soon. Contractors, on the other hand, could be the end of that.

How Often do Naval Aviators Fly?

The answer is highly subjective (like you said). I'm a LTJG in the RAG and flew 6 hours (2 flights) last week, but have flown 4-5 flights a week. IN the mythical fleet, you can expect to fly more/less depending on whether or not you're on deployment, sequestration, God hates you, etc... From...

Re-select E2/C2 out of primary again for FY13 studs?

FTR, those "P3 and Helo guys" already 'decide/give grades/whatever you wanna call it' who is cut out for jets. The VTs are populated by predominately by P3 and E6B guys and that is a well known fact. For every jet or helo guy I flew with in primary, I flew with 8 P3/E6B guys. So, in a sense, by...

If you're thinking about Dropping out.

    That's what I've heard also.
  25. J

If you're thinking about Dropping out.

Your analysis of the HTs is reasonably correct. The briefs are tough and they expect you to know the NATOPS and FTIs pretty much word for word (especially my on-wing in advanced). The flying, on the other hand, is much more instructional. They know we've never flown a helo before so they walk us...

    Pensacola for IFS/API

I lived in Governor's Gate the last 6 months that I was there. I liked it. I had a place right by the pool and the complex is chock full of UWF chicks which is nice. It's about 25 mins to either NASP or NASWF.

Blue Angels/T-Birds grounded, er, I mean, season cancelled.

Agreed. The first emotion is to be a little upset, but one has to remember that entire CVWs are being shutdown and fleet aviators are being grounded (which will probably screw them in the long run in one way or another). No sense in putting on the "everything's fine" face for the airshow circuit.

Being a Naval Aviator with a spouse in Law/Medicine/professional career

I'm no lawyer, but you may also want to consider that you could be in the same state (FL) for a large majority of your career or 2 states (FL + CA/VA for fleet/disassociated tours). So she may only have to take the bar twice. It sucks, but it's better than taking it every 3 years and it is a...

Anthropomorphic issue for fitting in a naval strike fighter jet

As others have said, you're young and your metabolism will slow. I went from 130 to 165 in college and gained about 2-3 inches of height. My advice: Lift heavy and eat like a horse (but dont get fat....i.e. eat lots of healthy meats and veggies).
  37. J

    IFS down the tubes?

An hour in a T-6 is more like $1000 by the time you pay for maintenance and buy tires. IFS is a decent program for getting rid of people who've never flown and find out they don't really want to. We still lost 4/13 in my primary class though.

    OCS attrition

I wasn't talking down to you. I was making the inference that it isn't that hard. Even without touching it, someone who can get through college with a 3.5 GPA and score 50+ on the ASTB should be able to learn that thing in about a week. Not to mention 8 weeks. I'm not sure how your class was...
  39. J

    OCS attrition

I had a full flight physical before I went to OCS, but that's only because I was contracted for Marine OCS before they cancelled all the pilot slots. Under normal circumstances, and foreseeably out-of-the normal ones, there isn't a way to do a full phsyical before getting there. You need to...

    OCS attrition

All that time standing in the chow and at medical and in the Pway with that thing held in front of your face and you couldn't memorize it in 3 weeks? It's pretty much force fed to you whether you memorize it before hand or not. I have no idea how someone can make it to week 8 without knowing it.
  41. J

    OCS attrition

The problem at OCS (for us) was the fact that we pretty much ate nothing but chicken, rice, and water and, of that, we didn't eat all that much. The chow at Newport was pretty good once you got past the first few weeks which was when they limited what we could eat (basically whatever 2 or 3...

    Switching from SNFO to SNA

Someone did the math while I was API on the 'required NSS' to be able to switch from NFO to NA and it was basically impossible. You'd have to have gotten zero questions wrong and gotten every reward possible. Basically Jesus himself would've said "F that noise".

    Sequester

I'm a fan of the 96 approach. Let's get more of that going on around here.
  44. J

    Sequester

Nope. If Washington D.C. wanted to find the money to keep us flying, they could do it. It's politics. Just wait it out and all will be right with the world again....eventually.
  45. J

    Sequester

We were talking about this yesterday. Even with an $85B cut, the money to fly the A/C and run the ships is there. The point of here is that we need to learn how to do it without pissing away our operating cost on FITREP bullets like safety programs (and even MORESO on entitlement programs and...
  46. J

    Sequester

Dude, dont drink the Obama flavored kool-aid that the news is handing out. 85B out of a multi-trillion dollar "lack of a budget" that we have going on isn't even a drop in the bucket. Are we going to see the effects? Yes, but only because the politicians want it that way. If they truly wanted to...

    IFS down the tubes?

Especially when we're paying said civilians 3x as much as our enlisted or officers to do the same job. I'm more worried about our guys/gals who 'signed on the dotted line' than I am about those who made no commitment (or jumped ship after theirs was up) so they could make more money. Hows about...

Same on the helo side bud. Minus the G-suit of course. We're sharing taint sweated dry suits and helmets also. Dont worry though 'cause, as our fearless leader put it in the debates: "the military isn't asking for more money." Yeah dude, we're all set over here. Let's give crack dealers and...
