    Huey (or Cobra) input wanted

Point. Made. Since you'd rather go -18s, you might want to be sure you're aware that they don't exactly drop ordnance like it's going out of style either and not many of them have done no-shit air-to-air combat either. Not many places in this country left where that sort of thing is allowed and...

    Huey (or Cobra) input wanted

...says the SWO. Clearly you know precisely dick about how the CVW works. There is plenty of tactics pain to go around. Yeah. That guy ^ just reinforced your point.

Pretty sure that's a "Big Navy" induced issue across the board.

    Where to rent - Oceana?

Chix beach is a good area. Hot Tuna, Chix Oyster Bar, and Shorebreak are legit hangouts. Va Beach towncenter is closer to Oceana and is the other good place in Va Beach. I dont really have any specific recommendations since I live further North in Norfolk. That should help you narrow things down...

    Huey (or Cobra) input wanted

Yeah I didn't mean to insinuate that our briefs were identical. Our Level 3 Tactics briefs involve some very in-depth planning with all of the above mentioned, however. I'm in one of the more 'tactical' CV squadrons so I see our Sr JOs working with the whole airwing on LFE's to do CSAR, PR...

    Huey (or Cobra) input wanted

We do it in the Navy 60 community. My 3rd flight in the squadron was a day tacform/gun pattern flight off the boat with two O-4s. Needless to say, the debrief was painful.

Statesboro, GA looks like a good place to stop on a future CCX.

    Wiley X Fingerless Gloves discount?

Well that's awesome. Just circumvent them by wearing the fingerless ones. Once you go wiley X, you can't go back. I have some of the camelbak gloves right now that I converted to fingerless. They're ok for the time being. Probably going to invest in those OR gloves. They look legit.

    Wiley X Fingerless Gloves discount?

I flew T-6s. I only had 1 sim instructor ever say anything to me about wearing gloves in there.
  10. J

    Wiley X Fingerless Gloves discount?

Why were you wearing gloves in a sim?
  11. J

    Wiley X Fingerless Gloves discount?

Hmm that's discouraging. I bought 2 pairs when I ordered mine back in primary. One pair finally developed holes 300hours of flight time later and the other is still holding on. It may be time to place another order. Amazon occasionally has blow-out deals on stuff like that. I bought a couple...

Who pins the wings at winging Ceremony? Wife or Dad?

Whoever you want to pin them on. My sister pinned mine on. My parents are divorced and I didn't want to deal with drama from either side about not getting to do it. They were both happy to let my sister do it (neutral ground I guess) and the sis cried when she found out that I wanted her to pin...

    Worst parts of Naval Aviation

As someone who is still 'young' in Naval Aviation: -Good: Working with people who are some of the best on the planet. -Bad: Working with people who have a terrible attitude and should probably be doing something else (from E-1s to O-whatever). -Good: Flying a/c that are 10x more badass and...

I see what you did there...;) Perhaps build it in the garage so my son has somewhere to sleep?

Angle of Attack, T-45C Goshawk boat training...

They should only let the camera guys in the jet if they'll agree to ride with the helo-studs on FAM1 in a TH-57. I'd like to see someone film that without shitting themselves. :D

My Latest Purchase (or just pictures of your current guns)

I hear ya. This ridiculous inflation on 5.56 (and ammo in general) is beyond dumb. 5.56 is a relatively small, easy round to produce and shouldn't cost more than .25$ or .30$ a round. I built my AR under the assumption that 5.56 would be cheaper than 6.8SPC or 7.62 (in it's various forms) but...

My Latest Purchase (or just pictures of your current guns)

Palmetto State Armory has some decent prices on ammo when it's in stock. They a limited time deal on 5.56 for about .40$ a round for 500 rounds. Not what it should be, but better than most.

    T6B Instructional Videos on YouTube

One day, young padawon, you too will stand duty and have only a POS NMCI computer at your disoposal that won't load videos or half the webpages. Don't judge me so quickly for missing that! :D

Roger. If you can't get to the MOA and back with these videos, then you got problems.

Airspace diagram referenced in 'Air Warriors' (by Doug Waller)

I would say "well done, sir". I've always thought it was ridiculous how we feel the need to make these things so difficult. I was a fan of the MOA rules: "Dont fly into the damn cloud."...."Roger that sir".

    T6B Instructional Videos on YouTube

Im pretty sure the TRAWING 5 SOP states "No cameras or recording equipment in the cockpit or on the flight line". Im seriously wondering if these are actually approved videos or the ass-pain is about to come down the pipe.

Welcome to the military. Everything is "needs of the service" and "quality spread". Aircraft selection after primary is much the same.

    Old Name Tags and Patches

The picture frame/shadow box with felt is a good way to display them and fill up a wall. Good part is it kinda doubles as a storage place and you can pull one down to wear.

    GI Bill & Flight training

Gotcha. So basically lots of auditing going on internally. Makes sense I suppose.
  27. J

    GI Bill & Flight training

That seems almost like an argument in semantics. Couldn't the flight school just label it a "commercial license" program in order to allow the funding from the GI Bill?
  28. J

    GI Bill & Flight training

Your OSO is trying to lock you into a contract and generate numbers. No offense as that's his job. If I were you, I'd try to fight that medical DQ a little harder. That sounds like a ridiculous/bogus test. They tried to DQ me for my eyes multiple times and I fought it and got through. Just keep...

    GI Bill & Flight training

Agree with the above. If your goal is to be an aviator, don't rule out applying with the USN (or USA, USAF for that matter). The application package is very similar so most of the work you've already done with the USMC OSO will transfer right over. On the other hand, if you are dying to be a...

    BAH and Barracks

A guy from OCS class Geo-bached it up during API. FYI to the OP, when I was there the BOQ at Pcola was pretty much full so everyone had to stay out in town. You just walked over there to get your "no lodging available" stamp and then smartly go about getting a condo on the beach.

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

If you weren't "leading" on Batt staff. You were doing it wrong. I got plenty of hands-on time with the 'older' classes helping them with RLP and ORLP. I made some pretty good friends with them and we still keep up. Yelling at someone for 16hrs/day =/= the only form of leadership (though it may...

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

We got plenty of face time with the DIs on Batt Staff. Don't think we didn't. Also, plenty of nap time. It was legit.
  34. J

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

Yeah, I'll take disappearing into my room for a mid-afternoon 2 hour nap over that 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

And Ladies and Gentlemen, this is why you should be on battalion staff. I didn't do crap during Indoc week and it was awesome.

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

That's pretty gay. If the worst thing the CDO has to worry about is a candi-o staying up past their bedtime, then I'd say his watch is going pretty smoothly.

    F-35c at Eglin

They might not fold. But they do rotate! Pretty small form factor when everything is slicked back on the MV22.
  38. J

    F-35c at Eglin

What He ^ said. Folding wings = cheaper, space-saving, relatively simple mechanical solution to CV life. Sweeping wings = expensive, aerodynamic performance enhancing feature with lots of moving parts (that move while you're flying which can turn out poorly if they stop working).

    Hobbies During Primary

Yeah no joke. Primary for me took 8 months and I had some delays due to syllabus changes (Low levels being thrown out). I can't imagine 14 months to get through primary.

You guys ever heard of the term 'facetious'? Things that are funny are that way because there's a hint of truth to them. So lighten up Francis...:D
  41. J

    Vt-2

Eh, after my FAM5 or whatever I could pretty much debrief them on what didn't go well that day. I knew what I did wrong.
  42. J

    Vt-2

6 of them? What are you doing to these kids in the de-brief? My 'bad' debriefs usually went something like the following: IP: "You really sucked today" ME: "Yeah, you're right." /End Debrief. :)

Governor's Gate is dog-friendly and is sorta the halfway point between NASP and NASWF. I'd personally say live down in Perdido and then move.

    Career Reflections by Pickle

Pickle, great story and thank you for sharing that. That's not something that's easy to throw on a message board for a bunch of assholes like us to read ;). But definitely something we probably needed to hear. Personally, I think that hearing this stuff from someone who actually dealt with it as...

    Now Wait

Haha well standby. Starvation and worthless PT awaits you. Side note: My form partner from advanced was a kicker for Boise State and then played for the Seattle Seahawks.
  49. J

    Now Wait

Fair warning, if you're still in good shape, you'll probably lose weight and come out of OCS in worse shape than you when you went in. Most of the more athletic guys like the seals and college athletes and whatnot (myself included; crosfitter here) ended up that way. Good luck with the app package.

Senate Candidate: Dual qualed as SEAL and Aviator ?

On the flip side, if he doesn't win then MA should probably just go ahead and fall off into the ocean. Pretty much a BAMF.
