I've spent a fair amount of time at both ranges, my personal opinion is that the ERML one is much safer. The folks there take the rules very seriously. You'll also see a larger array of firearms!

actually, no. It is cheaper in the long run and it is worth it to shoot around folks who actually practice the safety rules. Barrels have been swept across me many times at the public range. Plus, at ERML I swear I spent more time shooting other members' firearms than my own!

The helo sylabus for the Osprey bubbas is considerably shorter than the sylabus for normal Rotary. They don't have to do any of the RI sylabus, that alone eliminates about 2 months!!!

Call the Department of Firearms in California, it's part of their DOJ. They are pretty helpful when it comes to answering questions about what is and isn't legal in the state.

Rent and shoot more variety if you can. You are already on the right track in trying out many different types of pistols. Nothing wrong with picking up a used pistol as your first. If you find a good deal, jump on it and enjoy it. Do you have a price range? That matters a lot when looking...

In IFS you will probably fly a -172.....but it's not going to matter. It's still half the speed of the T-34....and civilian flight training is not nearly as stressful.
