    Gun Laws in your state

For those of you who owned "assault weapons" prior to the 1994 Bill: What actually "happened" to you when the bill was passed? Obviously you already legally owned the weapons that made the list, but could you still go out and use them? I suppose the real question I'm getting at is what...

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

This brings up a bigger picture question in regards to the aircraft at the FRS. Do the aircraft at the FRS ever get rotated to fleet squadrons, and vice versa? I don't know if the birds at my FRS have been in the fleet and sent back, or if they've ever even left my squadron. I would think...

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

Back to splitting hairs HJ:D The post claiming 7 per squadron was in reference to using old 737s in the FRS instead of P-8s. 84/12=7 I knew the P-3 community was hurting for planes...but geez.

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

Looks like we are splitting hairs here! I did my P-8 math based on the FRS having double the aircraft of the normal squadrons. Guess and check works wonders, thats how I came up with 6 a/c in a fleet squadron and 12 in the FRS....just like you:D

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

According to HeyJoe's post, I'm right:D;) And my logic was based on simple division, apparently the Navy's is as well. I think I've heard something about high quality 737 simulators being used for the commercial world. I'd think this would have obvious applications with the P-8 FRS and...

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

That'd give each squadron a whopping 7 aircraft to play with. Even if the BAMS thing does get rolling, the bigger picture is that Maritime guys will have to fly the aircraft less to preserve it and let the UAVs do part of the job. How many hours would you actually get in the aircraft?
  8. NozeMan

First flight of the P-8A Poseidon and all things related to transition

84 total aircraft for 12 Fleet squadrons and an FRS. Thats not a whole lot of aircraft for each fleet squadron, when you take into account the FRS. Figure 6 for each squadron and 12 for the FRS, that adds up to 84. How long will it take a squadron to fly the wings off of 6 aircraft? Is...

    Civilian Pilot License

    A) PPL doesn't factor in to service selection in the NROTC program. Do it if you want to blow the cash, even though you are going to get the rating after flight school for relatively nothing (I paid ~$220 for a class and the test). B) Work w/ your NROTC advisors to get PRK. There should be...

    T-6 at whiting?

Is there an issue w/ blowing tires in the T-6? The Whiting OLFs and North Field itself are at least 1000' shorter than Sherman (best case scenario is North Field @ 6000'), go easy on the brakes..... We can stop the T-34 on a dime, do we really have to switch??? Smiles in effect...

    T-6 at whiting?

The Primary sylabus takes about 6 months to complete. Could be more, could be less, depends on the weather. I wouldn't plan on flying the T-6 at all in VT-3 this summer.....look earlier on in this thread.

    USS George H.W. Bush underway

I'd love to see some of the "old school" carrier names be used again in the future. Naming them after battles of the Revolution is much better than living Presidents. But the CGs have taken over being named after battles, and even some old carrier names (Bunker Hill?). Let's use: Ben...

    Service Selection

This is exactly why I think it would be "easier" to get a pilot slot out of USNA vs. USAFA. Those of you at USNA can take into account that a certain number of your peers want to be SWOs, Nukes or Marines instead of pilots. What percentage of people do you think go to USAFA and don't want to...

I believe FN already makes a significant number of M16s (maybe M4s, but you get the point) for the military. My guess is this isn't really news. All 3 probably have a large number or significant contracts with the military.

    Huey Yankee

A Huey armed to the teeth also looks way cooler than a -60 with all of the toys mounted on it. I'm willing to admit that the Sierra looks pretty goofy with the wings and missile rails installed. Shoulda just went with more Hotels.....:D

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

I have no idea if they plan to open up another OLF. I wouldn't be surpised if we're just told to suck it up and deal. But I don't have to worry about the Norfolk stuff for a couple of years anyways. I guess Jacksonville is just too damn convenient.

CMP has carbines listed in the $500 range. If you go to a gun show you'll pay way more than that. The only difference is that you'll have to clean up the rifle you get from CMP...but thats the fun part! I remember seeing Carbines at gun shows in Florida starting in the 700's. CMP is a...

I've heard of dry firing being bad for .22 pistols like a Browning Buckmark. I wont ever dry fire my Browning....it's cheap enough to shoot! You can dry fire a Glock all day long, the manual doesn't even mention it.

Running on a softer surface should be easier on your lower body. As far as the orthotics go, you could always ask your podiatrist or whoever built your inserts. My first 2 sets of inserts were meant for all around use, they didnt end up being the best for running. I just started with a news...

Yeah, he's right. Actually, if you are a single ENS in A pool....you should be the CORRECT grade and get a kick ass rifle. Or spend the same money, get a Service Grade M1 Garand and a Service grade M1 Carbine from Inland. They put out beautiful Carbines, might as well get both!
