Is that an MH-60S with a refuelling probe? Or is it just a Pavehawk in Navy Gray?

When will I start getting ENS pay?

Something else to keep in mind: you're only going to get paid based on your date of rank. My class all commissioned on the 12th of May, but our DOR is 26 May. We didn't get paid for that two weeks, didn't have TRICARE for that period either. Don't expect to see any money until June, or even...

    Big Iron's fate

The whole point of my statement was to show that the "dying" communites like P-3s and HS are a different animal from HM. P-3s and HS have plans in place, and in the case of HS it's already a reality.

    Big Iron's fate

I believe AF is letting the CV-22 take the role of the MH-53J. The thing about P-3s and the HS community is that yes, they are in fact going away. However, there are plans in place for both communities to replace airframes and move forward. The "scary" thing about HM is that they don't have...

    Gun Laws in your state

I've seen these barrels at some online gun shops. Seems like a pretty darn good idea, especially when milsurps starts to dry up. Luckily for me, I got permission to pick up a Garand from CMP once the wife and I move back to the Free State:D;)

    Gun Laws in your state

Something I am curious about... Let's say the AWB does become a reality. Let's face it, our magazine fed rifles will be a thing of the past. How do you think the manufacturers will respond? Obviously we are going to keep buying firearms, but what is going to be available? I noticed...

    T-6 at whiting?

3 bags in a T-34C can get you to Denver from Whiting. The T-6 will be incredible for cross countries. Whiting guys will be able to make it to San Diego if they want. In terms of the T-6's avionics prepping you for future aircraft, it definitely has application for the future helo...

Major Command at Sea/Shore for Aviators (including Marine CAG opportunity)

Another discovery.... I happened to look at the pages for the LPD class ships and found out that Aviators can command other amphibs, in addition to LHA/LHDs. These two are jet guys as well! http://www.cleveland.navy.mil/Site%20Pages/CO.aspx http://www.denver.navy.mil/Site%20pages/CO.aspx

Major Command at Sea/Shore for Aviators (including Marine CAG opportunity)

Even more follow up on who commands CVNs/Big Decks... In the case of LHA/LHDs, the CO and XO are a combination of Aviation and SWO. I looked through the various ship pages using navy.mil and most of Aviators have helo backgrounds, but I did find an exception...

Major Command at Sea/Shore for Aviators (including Marine CAG opportunity)

This statement about CVN skippers isn't entirely accurate. HS bubbas seem to be CVN COs on a regular basis now, but obviously in the minority when it comes to command of the carriers. I believe the Reagan has an HS CO/XO combinantion right now. http://www.reagan.navy.mil/leadership.html

    New GPA requirements

Ok, so you admit to 2 crappy years in college before figuring the system out....congratulations. You say it took you that long to learn time management...whose fault is that? I'm not bagging on you specifically, but flight school is ALL about time management. The materials aren't especially...

    New GPA requirements

It's not hating on guys with low GPA. What RotorHead says is absolutely correct. If you cant hack 2.5+, especially in Lib Arts or some other non-engineering field, how the hell are you going to handle Naval Aviation and flight school? I smoked undergrad liberal arts, and worked harder in the...

Seeking advice on that first handgun or next weapon purchase? Ask AW!

CZ-75 is also a sleeper as well. They can be had at very reasonable prices, and are a great pistol. 9mm is the orginal chambering, but can be found .40 as well. It also has a manual safety, if that interests you. They can be found without them as well.

Maybe they're giving him a CCA (PAR, but to a ship). He's in a landing config flying up the back of the boat....that's the only explanation I have. If theyre testing the equipment and controllers on the boat, it makes sense because it's obviously VMC.

Obama plans quick move on Gitmo

That brings up another interesting point. So we deem the dudes we are holding as enemy combatants because we found them on a battlefield. Technically they are now POWs. As we've seen in war, we don't do anything with POWs did said conflict is over. How do we determine when the war on terror...

Obama plans quick move on Gitmo

The number of detainees at GITMO has been decreasing since we first started holding them there. As Chunks pointed out, some have been released and some have gone back to the battlefield. I'll grant you that the administration wrote the original rules to aid the US "cause", but that has changed...

Obama plans quick move on Gitmo

Hey zoomie.....circumventing the Constitution with respect to the detainees is not the issue. They aren't American citizens, so they aren't afforded the rights. The real arguement is whether or not to try them as enemy combatants and give them rights in accordance with the Geneva Conventions...

When I winged this spring, I was 3 weeks short of my DOR and picking up LTJG. That includes a May commissioning, but not starting API until mid December, 6 month Primary, and about a 8.5 month Advanced. Granted when I was in Advanced we had the shutdown last Spring. I'd say generically that...

Allows another rotorhead to weigh in: The dome (AWACS thingy that holds the rotor blades) at the top of the aircraft looked awfully thing in the video. How "thick" does it need to be to allow full articulation of the rotorblades? I think it would have to be fairly signifacant.....and would...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

There will also be some squadron and wing SOPs that you will have to comply with when you plan a cross country. It also depends on how many x's you have to knock out. For example, I had 9 x's to burn in Primary.....so we cross countried to Denver! You can work a cross country to visit...

Helo or Jet/Tailhook, that is (my) question as Selection approaches

I don't know how accurate this statement is. Advanced is much different than primary. The intensity in the HTs is much higher than it is in Primary, everyone operates at a higher level. If you are worried about being with "slackers" (from what I took from your post), I wouldn't worry about it...

Serious or sarcastic? A nice fella at my old range let me loose a mag of .45 GAP out of one of his glocks and I was impressed. I'd venture to say it was easier to control than an equivalent glock in .40. I've never seriously looked into a 45 GAP, though, figured if I ever go the .45 route...
