    DREAM SHEET -- '60's-'70's

+1 for the H-2 and HC-7 acknowledgment. My vote went to Helos because of HC-7 and HA(L)-3 and F-8 because of The Gun.

Must be that time of month...Hug it out!

I Agree on both counts. Funny thing was I could deduce more from BourneID's profile than I could from T37Driver's.

Must be that time of month...Hug it out!

I don't know about that. His profile says his occupation is IFSer, but it also shows his age to be 29 (how many 29-year-old IFSer's have no prior military experience?). It also says he belongs to the private Orion and Naval Aviator forums, which would also give clues to what kind of experience...

Im Interested in Flying for the Coast Guard

Nope, I am not one of those folks who want to argue about the CG not being part of the military. BUT, your assertion that the CG is part of the Department of Defense (which most reasonable folks would agree IS the military) makes me want to challenge your position. In the most friendly and...

F-15 giving new meaning to high performance T/O & Taxi

No vids, but I have pics (and I'm sure HH does too) of Helos pulling scared and wet pilots out of the big blue ocean after their suck-and-blow airplane crapped-out on them. ;)

    Naval Aviator's Coffee

We were a Helo Det in the PI. Not much choice on who you get to hang with, but we "hung" together for sure ;) Again, Helo Det in the PI. No targets to hit. Not even a pitching boat flight deck, just that big ol' Cubi runway. :) In all seriousness, the hangovers were really only barely...

    Enlisting into Naval Aviation

Everything in The Nav is cyclical. I enlisted as an AW when they were in short supply and getting huge re-enlistment bonuses. About halfway through the training pipeline word came down that the AW rate was over manned. Good bye bonus. By the time I was getting out bonuses were coming back (still...

    Naval Aviator's Coffee

I was taught that a Naval Aviator's breakfast was a Coke, Smoke, and a Puke. Unless you were in the PI, then it was a Beer, Barf, and a Cigar.

Army May Have to Borrow to Meet Payroll

How do they run out of payroll money for the year? It is not like they are paying the troops for unplanned overtime. I wonder if they spent their payroll funds on something else. I also wonder if this is just a tactic to get the supplemental funding passed by Congress.

    Army wings: photoshop skills needed

You are correct we didn't wear a crow. We would have our rating insignia on our soft patches until winged.

    Aerial Recce

So I guess I should ask what's so special about a picture of just some dumb rocks poking up out of the ocean? Seeing as how there is nothing else to see there, right? ;)

    Army wings: photoshop skills needed

No need to miss the "Gold". When I switched to the Army Reserve, I kept my NAC wings on. Wore them underneath the lead Army wings on both the dress uniform and BDU's. Had a First Sergeant find it in the Army Uniform regs that allowed me to wear them.

    Attack of the Sailing Nerds

    Pre-Deployment Brief

What was the answer to this question? In my day, mail got to the small boy fairly regularly (courtesy of the local HC squadron) even small packages. I'd like to think that hasn't changed much over the years. Sometimes we went and picked it up ourselves at the carrier. Funny how something we...

    Lots of aviation pics here

Hey! I was there May of 1985. How did you like still having to take Navy showers when you are on land? DG doesn't have a natural water cycle. They had to make fresh water with evaporators. The chow hall had good food though. Were you headed to the Big E, BTW?

    Lots of aviation pics here

Here's a pic frrom that site: Here's a link if you want full size: http://www.cnaf.navy.mil/nae/content.asp?PhotoID=467 Looks like a P-3 to me. Of course those sailors MUST be UN-loading those buoys since we all know P-3's don't do ASW anymore. ;)

    Lots of aviation pics here

^^^ Ah yes, good ol' Deigo Garcia. The Footprint of Freedom. The ship I was deployed on went to DG to get a main engine changed-out while the rest of the BG went to Mombasa, Kenya. We spent 10 days on that god-forsaken piece of coral.

    Sink/Scrap list

Connie in Singapore Harbor, April 1985. We pulled in here for 3 days barely a week after leaving the PI. Same pic at night: A couple o' interesting tidbits: Connie was the first to operationally deploy with the Plastic Bugs (I'll have to dig up a pic of her "mixed-mode" deck). Same...

    Civilians and flight jackets.

I get the feeling these uniforms won't last long. Sort of like the experiment to put EVERYONE (E-1 - O10) into the E-7 and up SDB.

    "Sierra Hotel" Flight Suits

Sorry, I had flight deck jerseys on the mind. Since they were supply items back in the day, they bought by the squadron and given to you. How do they handle t-shirts? Take up a collection? Or just point you to the NEX?

    Boxman ... Rip

I would be interested in hearing your opinion of the book. Not that it won't keep me from reading it again, just curious. I'm also wondering if the real Boxman earned his callsign the same way the character in the book did.

Repeating the camping portion, while maybe inconvenient, is nothing compared to the thought of repeating the camp portion. Did anything burn in their area? It would be a shame to try to evade when all the cover has been burned to the ground. There'd be nothing to eat either. As far as when you...

Yes, the flying part of the rate IS voluntary. You could sign your Page 13 and quit flying anytime you wanted to. Back in the day (I don't know about now) there were a few non-flying billets for AW's. But "quitting" your rate is a different story. How do you just quit your job in the Navy? My...

    VS-31 Cruise Video

Please forgive my ignorance of this "status". As an LDO did you fly as a SENSO? If so, was that because of a shortage of AW's? If not, did you fly as TACCO then? What kind of billets were AW LDO's supposed to fill?

DOR?!?! Since when can an AW quit "A" School? At the risk of getting the reputation of the dinosaur, it used to be the only thing that got you out of "A" School was failing academically. DOR out of the AW pipeline, I never would've thought. Good riddance, the rate has no room for quitters.
