We used MAF bags back in the day. Made of fairly thick plastic bag and a ziploc top. Never a supply issue with MAF bags, you could find them just about anywhere.

Having done the small arms qual both the Navy way and the Army way, in my opinion, the Army way is about what you'd expect for military shooting instruction. The Navy way....not so much.

An H-2 pilot told me once that some of the mods to the aircraft over the years were a direct result of someone getting killed by the SeaSprite (2nd engine, 4-bladed tail rotor, certain hatch latches, to name a few).
