    New Maritime Strategy

CNRMC is setting up an RMC facility in Rota for our FDNF ships. For training purposes, SURFLANT has set up an I-stop at Little Creek for everyone heading to Rota- and Bahrain-based ships. While they're I-stopped they'll complete all of the training they need in order to be ready to deploy. It's...

Questions about being a SWO after OCS

When it comes to living arrangements, this is the best advice you will ever receive. Living on the ship and being a geobachelor are never a good idea. As for living arrangements: I always had success with Craigslist and Padmapper. It's pretty easy to find people who are renting out condos and...

My Latest Purchase (or just pictures of your current guns)

Just picked up a G19 from the local CGX around the corner. Pro Tip: If you're in the market for a Glock, they do Mil/LEO pricing (mine was $437.99) and it's tax free. Hell, they even discount them during the storewide sales. I'm kicking myself for not buying one when they were discounted by 15%...

    Medical Paperwork at OCS

Is this a recent change? I know when I went through in 2011-12, the staff at the clinic in Newport didn't have a single scrap from my MEPS physical. I'm glad I brought everything, otherwise I would have been screwed.

    Any EDO Bubbas on AW?

That's good to know. I'm talking to some dudes at the local RMC and am going to be attending the junior EDO mentoring sessions. I've also talked to the new accessions detailer and he was very helpful. I just want to make it on the first try. My previous experiences redesignating have left me a...

OCS applicants and selects in Charlotte, NC

As a fellow Carolinian, I have only one piece of advice: Do NOT, under any circumstances, go to the Charlotte MEPS station for your MEPS physical. Go to Raleigh or Shaw AFB or Ft Jackson or Ft Bragg. The doctor there is a hack and will do everything he can to attrite you.

    Any EDO Bubbas on AW?

So I've been putting together my lat transfer package to hop over to the EDO community for the upcoming board in June. I was wondering if there were any EDOs skulking around the boards who could offer advice. Also, my CO would like to see an endorsement letter from someone who made it through...

Questions about being a SWO after OCS

Fair enough. I miss the FFG some days, but the PC is more fun. Have you signed the Blood Money yet? You're not as much of a redheaded stepchild as you think. I've got a number of buddies who showed up as JGs or Ensign-Upper Halfs and did just fine. As Uncle Fester mentioned your timeline to...

    Why are you Leaving?

No need to pull numbers. I just know our retention has been terrible for a very long time and no one higher up seems to want to actually address the problem. I'd say y'all are starting to see a lot of what we've been dealing with for the last decade of toxic leadership, stupidly-high op tempo...

    Favorite ports of call

    1) Malta. Hands down, can't beat it. The history and weird mix of cultures makes for interesting exploring. 2) Casablanca. My buddies and I rented a taxi for $60 for the entire day and rode around the city exploring. 3) Roatan. I didn't have duty and had free reign for 4 days. I lived off of...

Questions about being a SWO after OCS

Sure, FFGs don't have VLS, SM-2s, or any of that gucci shit, but we did have an SPS-49 and CIWS and follow a lot of the same doctrine and NTTPs. You can get the basic framework. And when we worked with the Greeks, Turks, Brits, and Italians in 6th Fleet, I learned a lot about being part of...

    Living on The Boat

    1) Baby wipes for when the ROs shit the bed and you have water hours. 2) TV in the stateroom is pretty clutch. 3) Put velcro on the roof of your rack so you can lay in bed and watch movies on your tablet. 4) Double up on the rack curtains to get maximum darkness. 5) Carpet. So nice, so very...

Is being a SWO really that bad?

SWO is the worst thing you could ever do with your life, ever! /sarc Seriously, SWO can suck. My first tour was rough. I had screamers and throwers for COs and my department heads weren't much better. I was also amongst the Old Guard; those crusty old, prior-E SWOs who've been in the Navy as...

    Why are you Leaving?

This a huge factor in the Surface community, as well as the whole trust in leadership thing. My question is, is this exodus in the Aviator community relatively new or is it just reaching critical mass? We've had this going on for us SWOs for quite some time now, but I'm curious if it's for the...

Questions about being a SWO after OCS

We had the list distributed after RLP and then the SWOs had to choose a couple weeks before graduation. I was a special case as I redesignated at OCS. Anyway, like everyone else has said, you pretty much get a list and then hash it out with your classmates. The list of ships depends upon when...

    Navy/Air Force Aero Club's

Thought I'd resurrect this thread: I'll be in the Hampton Roads area for the next year as my ship goes through dry dock and was wondering if y'all had any recommendations on flight schools or flying clubs in the area. As far as I know, Langley is the closest one but are there were any reputable...

Really stupid questions about life as a SWO and anything else not aviation related [mod dog wuz hərə]

The USS MOUNT WHITNEY is a second-tour DIVO ride billet as are any squadron/fleet/staff jobs in Gaeta or Naples or Sig. Now, if you want to get over to Europe as a first tour DIVO, we'll be sending some ships over to Rota, Spain, which is a great deal. Rota is a great place to be.

    EOD Officer?

When I went through OCS, I tried to redesignate to EOD and both slots for my year group were full-up. Both of the guys were in the class behind me and were awesome dudes. They said the only real way to get in is to enlist as EOD and go to OCS or to get in good with the community and try to...

What happens if I transfered to Intel?

Right now if you go to a POCR board (what happens if you DOR) you will probably be booted from the Navy. I had a buddy told that from the dude who coordinates all of the boards about a month ago. He said the only thing that could help you stay in is if you owe the Navy a lot of money.

    SWO Sweater

He's been in over 20 years and is about to be up for retirement. He got the helmet when he was QMC on a big deck amphib and the captain wanted all of his OODs to have a distinctive piece of headgear to distinguish them on the bridge.

    MEPS Issues

When I got NPQed at OCS, I was asked the question of what I wanted to do in the Navy. I was even offered a Nuke slot that I turned down. It all comes down to numbers eventually. NAVY OCS and ADD medication

You can search through the forums, I have quite a few threads but the short version is that I took ritalin as a kid, stopped my freshman year of high school because it didn't have any effect any more, and then went about my merry way. What to Learn Before Heading to OCS

As has already been said, you'll have plenty of time to learn the stuff when you get to OCS. Spend this time preparing for the absolute suckfest that will be OCS.
