Yeah, your closest PSD is where you need to go. Actually you'll probably have to call them, but they're the ones who can help you out. If she is in DEERS I would think things should be easy to fix.
For a PPL you'll need a minimum of 40 hrs. There is also a certain number of solo hrs, simulated instrument hrs, and cross-country hours that are part of the total 40 hrs time. You should be able to pick up where you left off in IFS with any CFI. If you get stuck in A-pool like the SNAs seem...
I was thinking he meant the Marine variant of the JSF, which definitely won't be around any time soon. Either way I still stand by my comment that this guy is a tool. Tell your sister to break it off :tapedshut.
You are right... this guy sounds like he is being very dishonest. Your boyfriend is right about the planes - one has been around for a while and the new one won't be in the fleet for quite some time. Any guy who points out the fact that he could die if he messes up in the cockpit just so his...
I'm still pre-OCS so my opinion may be a little bit undecuated, but I am not planning on going into an airline job. It would be nice to have that as an available option, but I am not going to plan my entire military career around it. Commercial airliners are NOT my goal. That makes at least...
Like ea6bflyr said, go to the section of the site where you can download the study guide. If you can't find it just ask. There is a practice test that is VERY similar to the way the test used to be. Recently though they redid the test and I can't comment on how similar it is to the study...
I got my PPL over the course of a summer, and I did it AFTER being picked up for BDCP. Mostly I did it just because it sounded like something fun to do with my free time, but also because my parents all but forced me to do it to make sure that I really liked flying enough to make a career out...
Okay that is what I suspected and it makes a lot more sense... It's a little early to know for sure but I expect that I'll get all checked in at API and get started waiting on A-pool and THEN go and ask for leave. Hopefully I'll be ahead of the ROTC/Academy guys and won't have to wait as long...
I heard a couple of weeks ago from my recruiter that all non-paid OCS slots (at least for aviation) are going to be closed until FY 2005. If that's true, you would graduate OCS on or after October 1, 2005. Talk to your recruiter and see if that applies to you. If you're BDCP or non-aviation...
Yes, ideally that will be my plan. However, I have heard that they don't let you do that. Whether it is true or not is pretty questionable. Can anyone verify?
Ok, thanks Red2. That sounds pretty simple. The main thing now is setting a date that will safely fall in my A-pool time. We're thinking maybe right around July 4 or possibly also the May/June timeframe. Assuming that all goes well and I get out of OCS at the end of April, things should work...
I think that the classes are pretty easy - at least that is what I have heard. They teach you everything you need to know before you have to answer any kind of questions (I think). I also have to do these classes, but last time I checked I couldn't get the site to come up.
Thanks - that's what I meant to ask... brain fart. How easy or difficult is it to leave town (actually I'll be needing to leave the state) during A-pool?
That is exactly what I am trying to do - have the wedding after OCS and before API gets started. That brings me to another question - I...
I got a Toyota Tacoma. Dunno about the new 2005's, but I love my 2004. It really is a great truck and the mileage is decent too. I get 20 mpg on the highway (my truck is a 4x4). Way better than the 11-13mpg I used to get in my Dodge Ram...
If you're thinking of a truck I would definitely...
Thanks for the info guys... Is it easy to take leave during API? What about needing a specific date (for a wedding)?
Fly Navy - I had 666 posts when my girlfriend had 777. Isn't that weird? I noticed that earlier today. :D
If you want to get PRK and are not already enlisted in the Navy, YOU will have to pay for it. Before OCS. If you need PRK to meet pilot eye standards, they will not accept you and then foot the bill later. Your eyes have to be good at the time of application. Make sense?
If you are...
I thought that Blue Nile had a wider variety of things to choose from, but also higher prices. If you find something on Blue Nile's site that you like - Union Diamond will make it for you at a better price.
And Kevin - yes, I have a girl. Meet crysmc. She loves me and she loves the ring.
Hey guys -
I recently went all-out and bought an engagement ring. For those of you who may be considering doing the same thing soon, you should check out Union Diamond. I was referred there by a friend and have had a really good experience buying from them. If you're afraid of buying such...
Guys and gals:
I recently asked my girl to marry me and we're trying to get things planned for a ceremony this coming summer. I'm supposed to get out of OCS on April the 29th. Could those of you who have been through the wait please let me know about how long it took you to class up for...
I'm going to start a new thread on this topic that includes a poll. I'm trying to get a feel for the break between OCS and API so I can plan a wedding...
I have a loan with USAA. They design their loan package to fit the needs of people who have not had the opportunity to establish good credit yet. It is for newly commissioned/pre-commissioned officers. When I bought my truck I had the option to use dealer financing, but because I don't have...
As far as college debt goes - you're on your own as far as I know. If you need PRK to get your vision up to par you have to pay for that also. Then you have to get a waiver... that takes time (from what I hear). The news may not sound good - they are full up on pilots and aren't making it...
Who here asked to be treated special or different??? Come on man, give her a break! You should at least be able to admit that things ARE different for females if for no other reason than personal hygiene. However, I have a feeling that isn't anything close to what she wants to know about...
Holy crap - what a threadjack!
I had the opportunity to chit chat with a Superhornet FRS instructor the other day, as well as a helo guy and a P-3 guy. They were all in town to see a UT football game (the helo guy is a ROTC instructor so he's always in town). It was cool to get to talk to...
I've got a book on the evolution of the F-18 and Dave is right on. The Hornet started life as the plane that nobody wanted. After a lot of modifications it became the Navy's choice, and if I remember correctly it was because the F-16 just didn't have the room to beef up the parts enough to...
Yeah I read that a while back. I think it was posted here on the site but with so many new people browsing these days it's great that you posted it again. It truly is an amazing story.
I could always see who gave me points and I'm a regular moderator. You probably figured that out already, but just in case you didn't I thought I'd share.
I think that it's a good thing to be able to see who gives you points. The only concern, IMO, is whether people will get into...
I went Navy and went to MEPS. It is definitely NOT anything like what I have heard a flight physical is like. What you went through already is way more thorough than what I did.
According to the information I have there isn't a specific limit for the T-45. If you fit in the T-34 then you should be ok since the 34 has measurement limits. Go to this thread: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5886&highlight=anthros
Scroll down some to post #16 and you...
I used to see this happen all the time... it's funny to see F-16's trying to fly 100 kts to "keep up" with a Cessna :D
And if he had checked the NOTAMs wouldn't they have mentioned the TFR?
Anyway, flying inside a TFR is not a big deal if you know what you're doing. It's actually pretty...
What kind of timeframe are you applying for? When do you graduate from college? My recruiter told me last week that they aren't taking any new aviation people for OCS until after the new fiscal year (October 2005). This is not bad gouge, it is from my OPO.
Anyway, if you're applying for...
I've never used Verizon... I'm on AT&T and saved a pretty good amount. I think it's 15% more minutes each month (free) plus 15% off the bill. In addition you save 10% on accessories and I got a really good price on my phone. Also, they sign you to a one-year contract instead of two.
It seems like the enlisted (or prior) guys like the idea of new uniforms. I have no fleet experience myself so I can't really say whether the new ones would be better or not, but based on others' comments anything else would be an improvement. But seriously, can we (all forces, not just Navy)...
As far as the NWUs go I prefer the woodland pattern as opposed to digital camo. Other than that I figure that more pockets = better and gray vs blue dominant color doesn't reallly make all that much of a difference.
oops
Wow, I actually went and looked at the new AF stuff. If this  is what they are thinking then I definitely like the Navy ones a whole lot more. I should have looked at the AF uniforms before I said the Navy ones looked too much like them.
I agree about the whole "why do we need...
