    Question on living quarters

I thought that as a geo-bach you got BAH for your wife back home and either free BOQ or local BAH for you to stay out in town. That's how it worked when I was in API last year, did they change it? Also, my orders to API were TDY. They wouldn't PCS my wife to Pcola unless I had follow-on...

    Moving to Whiting

While it is possible to do that, you'll have to get the people in charge of deciding where you go to agree to help you out. It's kind of a "needs of the Navy/Corps" kind of a thing. You go where they tell you. If you're fortunate enough to have someone going to bat for you then you could very...

Do not live in Marcus Pointe. The apartments suck almost as bad as the management does.

    Nike maxsight tinted contacts

I'm interested in them for long road trips and other outdoor activities more so than using while flying. I'd agree that anything beyond the tinted visor is a little beyond necessary.

    Nike maxsight tinted contacts

Does anyone have any experience with these in or out of the cockpit? I saw them on TV as an equipment highlight during the UT/OU game Saturday. Tinted contacts seem like they'd be a good thing. Anyone seen/used them?

Does it matter what training squadron you get at primary

You need both, sort of. If you make below an 80 on a test you will have to retake it until you make an 80. They use that 80 that you made in your average (even if you ace the test the second time around it still counts as 80). So, technically, you can't have an average under 80%. When I...

Does time at school on BDCP count?

As far as I can recall, my recruiter told me that the time in service counts for pay and retirement both. I have never heard any differently either.

    Shoes to shine ??

Also, you should know that they will likely REQUIRE you to purchase a pair of running shoes when you get there. I really liked the pair they fitted for me so I bought an extra pair when OCS was over. If you don't like the "issued" pair, you can use them for inspections.

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

I left Pensacola at the beginning of the month... at that time they were giving them out to all the guys who had orders out of the area. I think only one or two guys out of my API class who were headed to Corpus/Vance/Moody didn't get a leather jacket.

Whats a typical day at OCS like?

You will learn to fall asleep while standing up. If you are really good, you will learn to sleep while you're walking, too. OCS taught me to be a professional at both.

    Christmas wedding

I just got out of Pensacola a couple of weeks ago, and the way it went for us was that the guys who had prior flight time classed up almost immediately after reporting to API. The only reason you'll still be in Pensacola during the holiday season is if you need to do IFS or if you're staying in...

The New pit for my money....

Be freaking careful if you decide to start riding. The tip to "ride like no one sees you" could not be any more true. I had an unfortunate incident where someone really didn't see me... it almost cost me my SNA spot. I've given up road bikes for now - it's hard to win against 4,000 lbs of...

    Primary PCS or TDY?

For all of you guys who are in the know: We got a brief from Personal Property today and were told that our orders from API to Primary would likely be TDY and not PCS. If that is the case, our 10,000 lb limit of stuff to move at government expense drops to only 600 lbs. I know that I have a...

    Apartments in Corpus

Thank you for your informative reply. Compass Bay is one of the complexes I have been in contact with and is one of the specific places I hoped to get feedback on. If you don't mind me asking, which floorplan are you in? Also, about how far is the apartment from A&M? My wife has a bachelor's...

who wants to buy some stuff?

I think that a lot of us guys who aren't in training/fleet squadrons really don't have much of a vote here. It would be cool if some patches and such were made, but since all I have is civilian clothing at this point, I don't think I'd be buying anything for a while :icon_tong .

    "Active Topics" vs "Today's Posts"

I, too, use the New Posts function most often, but there are times when I would like to be able to bring up posts from a specified time period. Most of the time it's when I let my session time out and then want to come back and continue reading with new posts. Also, it will come in handy when...

Is it possible to get a pilots slot with non-tech major

You do not have to have a technical degree for a pilot spot. Feel the situation out with your recruiter... things are competitive right now and any little advantage you can give yourself (like a tech. degree) will probably help.

    when should i start?

    KCMO Problems

The way it was explained to me was that if my grades ever dropped below a 2.7 then I would be placed on probation for a semester to bring them up. I interpreted that to mean that the cumulative GPA was important for getting into BDCP and that current GPA was important for staying in BDCP. I...

    Measuring Antrho's

DAVID chair (I think that is what it is called - don't know for sure) is what you sit in to be measured. They do some sort of computer-magic and then give you your anthros. Someone who's been through training can elaborate more.

Does this effect the Navy T-34's???

From the AOPA website, 12/14/2004... FAA grounds T-34 fleet Emergency action not likely to affect Bonanzas or Barons The FAA has issued an emergency airworthiness directive grounding all Raytheon Beech Model 45 aircraft, commonly known as T-34s. The action comes after the in-flight...

    SOHCAHTOA on the ASTB... why?

I needed it for the test and didn't know it - too long since I learned it in high school and I never used it in college. The answer choices are presented in such a way that you don't need a calculator but you do need to know the formula.

    dental work

I have absolutely no idea what the Navy's stance on your injury will be. However, from a personal standpoint, I would definitely want my mouth to be 100% good to go by the time I report to Pensacola. That's just me though.
  44. ben

what does an ASTB score mean?

Your recruiter meant that you got a 7/8. There were 6 different scores back when I took the test in early 2003. The two that your recruiter was likely referencing are the AQR and PFAR or FOFAR (depending on whether you are hoping for pilot or NFO). The first score, AQR, I believe stands for...
