on base housing the word they're telling us over here is you have to live in base housing, is that really true? I'm assuming they can't make you do that if you're married? I already have a lease and my wife and I have 3 dogs while base housing allows only two.

Thorlo boot socks, black or olive drab. Also, if you wear a pair of silk dress socks underneath the thorlo's it cuts down on friction and helps with blisters.

Agreed, to each his own. I agree with your list 100%, and I'll add one thing that helped me - someone said bring dry erase fine point map pens, I would also bring some clear, self laminating sheets. Once you make a nice 5-paragraph skeleton, you can laminate it and write on it with the map pens...

Last I heard, they aren't approving leave or OHARP until you are 100% ready to class up for API, which means medically cleared, BOLTC, and IFS complete. I'd be shocked if you completed all that within 2 months of checking in. IFS will take you one month minimum and you won't start that until at...

At some point before API you will do DIVOLC, which is a week long course. Even with your PPL don't expect to start API for at least 3-4 months if not more once you get here. The orders you get before you graduate OCS will tell you your report-by date to NAS Pensacola. More than likely after OCS...

Yes, if you're married you'll get follow on orders to Whiting for Primary at the end of OCS so you can PCS your family out here. I would suggest looking somewhere halfway between NAS Pensacola and Whiting Field to live, you'll want to minimize your commute because the Navy will only pay to move...

Yep, no more Destin, Big Navy kind of screwed them over but those decisions are made way above my pay grade. The school was about 85% dependent on Navy IFS so when the decision came down they had to let go of half their staff, good people to. But I guess that's going on everywhere these days.

Just finished my cross country solo, kind of bittersweet, I'm glad to have the check in the box but I really enjoyed Destin. It's too bad the Navy isn't sending more studs there it was a great atmosphere and great people to work with.

+1 for the O-club, did ours there, it was an awesome good time, and the cheapest option by far.
