    Navy OCS liberty

I left there in May and the liberty cards are very much alive...as well as liberty plans, driving restrictions, etc. I was an E6, married and still had a few instances of cinderella liberty, no drinking, etc. Everytime someone screwed up, we all paid. It's pretty crazy there now.

    Navy OCS liberty

Yeah, unfortunately it's more wide spread now than in the old days. I assume you're asking in general and not just OCS. When I enlisted in 97 only E3 and below had it on deployment, but now it goes a lot higher up the food chain...even at your homeport if you're stationed in Japan.:(

    New BAH policy...

If you guys go to the JFTR, you can find all you need to know about what you're entitled to. Like I said in a previous post, I think they're just fixing what has been done wrong for who knows how long. When you talk to PSD, if you don't understand something, ask to see the instruction, they...

    New BAH policy...

I think this is where they're coming from: JFTR, section 10416. I think the per diem everyone had been getting was due to a certain civilian at PSD trying to work the system. Makes no difference to me, I'm prior and married.:DTough luck guys. D. New Accessions. BAH-T applies to a member...

    LDO vs. CWO

Thanks Goob. The person I was referring to was an E9 and went warrant, but if I'm understanding the code it doesn't apply until W-4 at which time he had already caught up with his pay. Thanks for the info.

    LDO vs. CWO

Do you have a reference for that statement? I've never heard of such a thing and actually heard first hand info to the contrary.

Which watch to get my brother on his comissioning date?

Personally, I liked the design of the Promaster, I think it's a really nice watch, just not for me. Like I said, too cluttered and a little too big. The whiz wheel is cool if you just want to show off being a aviator, but probably won't use it much in the aircraft. Having the second time zone...

Which watch to get my brother on his comissioning date?

Very true. My wife was looking at this same watch for my Christmas present. We went to try it on and it's way too cluttered and a little too big for my taste. We went with Seiko as usual.

    Coast Guard RC Helicopter

I got an Air Hog for my 7 year old;) a couple of months ago and I love it. The best part is chasing the dog around the house with it. He nipped it once, but it's still flying. As for flying straight, it took me two or three days before I even noticed the yaw trim on it, but it's still a little...

    Tattoo questions

//treadjack Does anyone know if the Navy would pay for tattoo removal? I have a small tattoo that's visible and have been wanting to get rid of it for years, but don't know if it's really feasible. end threadjack//

Rethink getting a hotel in a foreign Port

Concur completely. And if you think that's BS, earlier this year, after a string of drinking and driving incidents, CVW-5 squadrons began revoking driving priveleges for the entire squadrons. My squadron couldn't drive for about a week, Skipper all the way down. This even included the people...

What's so inaccurate about it? I left Japan in May and this IS the kind of stuff they're doing there now.

3.5% Mil Pay Raise On Hold

Come on now. Bush has done a hell of a lot more for the military paycheck than Clinton and his boys did. Anybody else remember the two raises we got in 2001? If I remember correctly, my raise was around 11%. Every year since has been better than any of Clinton's raises. Don't count on any of...

    Big Watch for Graduation

Actually..about 10 years ago when I was an Airman Recruit, I was walking back to the border with my friends after a long night in Tijuana and got robbed. I had my money in my shoe (my usual TJ precaution), so all he could get was my Ironman...ah the memories:)

Death in the Family while at OCS

Immediate family members will almost always be grounds for emergency leave. How long you're gone would determine if you rolled, but that would be the least of your worries at that point. Non-immediate family members are usually case by case. Just tell your family not to keel over while you're at...

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Just curious...why is that? In my last squadron (HSL), it seemed like all of the pilots and crewman gave up their nomex for the Gore-Tex, but I didn't see anyone else throughout the air wing wearing it.

Exactly! Let us know once you get there. Exactly what dues have you paid? Getting a degree paid for by mom and dad? A great deal of those enlisted personnel sign up just to get a chance to pay for college. Up to this point you've paid exactly the same dues as those young men and women you're...

    Bdcp $$

Their ID's actually say Non-PO, PO2 or whatever pay grade their getting. Some of the BDCP'ers I was in OCS with would say they were PO2's or when we were on liberty, tell someone they've been in the Navy for two years, etc. Being a prior, I was especially quick to correct them and give them a...

    Indoc PRT at OCS

Does that happen, yes, but I'll give you this warning. There was a guy in my class that was rolled because he was counting his partner's BS pushups and the DI subtracted pushups from both of them.

Household goods weight limit and excess charge?

Try this: http://dodtravelregs.hqda.pentagon.mil/propub/template.htm?view=main It's the Joint Federal Travel Regulations. It's a huge pub, but search through it and it will tell you what you can and can't do. For details you need to talk to a personal property office. Is there a military base...

Household goods weight limit and excess charge?

Concur with snake about the CTO. As for the HHG move, you need to get with the personal property office. Not sure how support works with ROTC units, but I'm sure there's someone there that can point you in the direction of the appropriate personal property office.

I also remember Sat-med for the in. I personally got Sat-med on my push-ups thanks to some DI attention. As for the mid and out, don't worry. You'll be well above the minimums by then.

What specifically, is a day at OCS like?

BTW, it may have been 10 years since I was there, but I remember reveille being 0500 and taps to reveille actually meant rack time at boot camp unless you were on watch.
  35. B

What specifically, is a day at OCS like?

First thing you need to realize is...THIS AIN'T BOOT CAMP. Trust me. If you think OCS will be easier, you're going to be in for a rude awakening. It just ain't the same.
  36. B

What specifically, is a day at OCS like?

That means that once you and your classmates determine there's no staff members wandering around, you get back up to finally take care of everything you need to do prior to revielle. Then you're back in bed by 0430 before the DI's start strolling in. Good times. I never knew I could survive on...

    Return to OCS after DOR?

If you were on the board, would you give yourself another shot? You already took one spot in OCS over plenty of people that would have gladly fought through it if they were given the chance. I'm sure you could re-apply, but I would venture to say you don't have much of a chance. On a lighter...

Know of a good place in Yoko?

Red, Are you and your friend planning on rooming together? The only reason I ask is the rules for OHA are different than BAH. In the states you can both bag BAH and split the rent, but it's not like that with OHA. Just keep that in mind. Like I said before, check out the housing office to find...

Know of a good place in Yoko?

First of all, where are you going, Atsugi or Yokosuka? If you're working at one, you don't want to live at the other. It can be 1-2 hours driving depending on traffic. Second, there are literally thousands of places to live in both areas, so don't worry about it until you get there. It's nothing...

    OCS dates for aviation selectees

I would say between 2-3 minutes. You do your sit-ups, switch with your partner, then on to the push-ups. It goes pretty quick. Then maybe 5 minutes before starting the run.

    NFO and Career afterwards?

    First MH-60R squadron is established!

It looks like CAPT McNellis, CAG 5. Not sure what he would be doing there though. The flag is RADM Hall, first skipper of HSL-51 and I think the rest are old LAMPS bubbas.
