Looking for gouge? Ask your Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation here (Part 1)

I'm really surprised you mods haven't banned this guy yet. He's gotta have the record for negative rep.

MCPON Appoints Honorary Chief Petty Oficer

This is a great story and gives some of the newbies an idea of what the Navy is all about. It gives a glimpse at the high quality of folks you'll have working for you in the fleet. Reading this story makes you proud to be a part the world's greatest Navy...

    Declined...kinda...

I don't think vette was being serious about the DOR thing. When I was in API it seemed like 80% of the DOR's, attrites, etc ended up with intel or IW. That may have been his point. I hope that was what he was trying to say anyways.;)

    Life on the Flight Deck

I've never personally seen anyone get taken across the deck that far. A little slide hear and there, but not that bad. I'm thinking he was probably just in a bad spot on a wet, slick deck. I was a helo maintainer and I always grabbed a padeye during launch/recovery to keep from getting taken...

Waste Management and Trash On Navy Aircraft Carriers

Just thought you might like to know that many of the smart officers here were once ignorant enlisted folk. Good thing we pulled our heads out of our asses when we commissioned.

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

They don't make them, probably due to the relatively low number of people going through OCS compared to Great Lakes. They did however have cruise books way back in the day(like Vietnam era). There used to be stacks of them on the Q'deck in Batt 1 down here in Pensacola. I looked through a couple...

    Whiting BOQ

I've been biting my tongue for a while seeing as how this doesn't affect me, but I can't help it. I've heard multiple times about how this policy will affect them financially(not being able to pay loans, etc). Well, as we all know, BAH is meant to pay for rent and utilities. If you've been...

enlisted paths to earning a commission?

Maybe it's just me, but if you're friend thinks he has what it takes to be an officer, maybe he should take the initiative to do his own research. Perhaps starting with OPNAVINST 1420.1A.

    Utilities Costs in Pensacola

Gas doesn't save me any money from what I see. I have a family of four and we usually pay $100-150 each on electricity and gas. The one that really gets me though is the trash bill. We live in a part of town that has separate water and sanitation companies and our saitation bill is around $50...

    Swim test

Seriously, I sucked at swimming in API. I mean, I knew how to swim and thought I was good, but when I got there, I found out that I actually sucked really bad. I struggled throughout the swim training, but it all came together in the end. The mile actually ended up being the easiest part of swim...

    Sea Daddy Program

Maybe you should move along if that's the tone you're going to take with officers you're soliciting help from. BTW, a JAG is not exactly the right person to tell you what the Navy is REALLY about.

Freaking brilliant! Don't drink here on base where it's safe. Go across the island, get hammered and then drive back.

    Moving to Japan with pets

Just to clear up a point, the number of bedrooms you're allowed is dependant on rank and number of dependants. I think 3 was the min. for officers though. Yes, you can get advance DLA, PSD should be telling hubby this. As for vehicle storage, I didn't do it. I just left mine at my parents. I...

    Moving to Japan with pets

BAH stops when you leave CONUS. After you get there, the housing office should be one of your first stops(scheduling driving class is another), and then CSD(PSD) will start your TLA. It takes a week or two to get your first payment. I think they pay you every 10 days IIRC. You will be authorized...

    Moving to Japan with pets

The towers aren't bad depending on who your neighbors are. I lived in the towers during two tours over there. The first tour I loved it. The second tour, about 6 months into it, a family full of demon children moved in above us and it sucked. We complained several times, but there's a potential...

Suggestions for improving 1 1/2 mile time

And my point was, you'll never have an official PRT ran in that order. So...if you only passed it backwards, do you thing the recruiter actually helped you?
  23. B

Suggestions for improving 1 1/2 mile time

That's not a very smart way to train. The only way an official PRT will be conducted IAW the instruction is curl ups, push ups, run. If you're not training in that order, it's going to hurt you on game day. Train like you fight.;)

    a question about nerves.

I think I understand what you're saying hear and I agree with you. I was a maintainer for 10 years with the Navy and I truly believe we are the best. The first time I ever flew a GA airplane was in IFS and it scared the crap out of me. Seeing the way the civilians did maintenance was scary. And...

    Kids out of CONUS

Yeah, I know about COT, but that doesn't sound like what he's talking about. I've never heard of the college student dependent thing and a quick search didn't turn up anything.

    Kids out of CONUS

Could you ask Mom to clarify that for us? I did two tours overseas and I've never heard of that. The closest thing I can think of is EML, which just gives them priority for Space-A. @ OP, we never came back CONUS during my two tours in Japan. Cheapest rates I remember seeing for a famliy of four...

what are the hazards associated with rescue swimmer job?

I wasn't saying it doesn't happen, just the experience from my squadron. BTW, whenever we did cross country's, a maintainer PC flew in the back. About the only time I saw them do it was on the boat. Now, I did have a couple on det with me over the years that would stop by the shop after a flight...

what are the hazards associated with rescue swimmer job?

I'm sorry, but I just can't stop laughing at that one. Maybe back in your day, but the last time I saw an AW do a daily (back around 2001), I might as well have been doing it because he kept asking us what the card was telling him to look at. Oh, and this was supposedly the superstar AW2 that...

Marine Staff SGT. accused of rape

I agree 100% with propstop.I spent 6 years in Atsugi and a lot of time in Okinawa for training. The mainland loves us, but there are a great deal of people in Okinawa that hate us and just want us to leave. That being said, I always had a great time when I went down there. The weather was...

    Current API Gear Issue Situation

In my opinion, if you go to Wings for anything other than buying the patches, you're wasting your money. The Paraloft will do everything, even putting velcro on all your patches, FOR FREE. I don't see any difference in quality, especially since they're the only one's authorized to work on your...

    Age waiver (OPNAV 1420.1A)

A website wouldn't exactly constitute "policy", now would it, go with the actual instructions. Like I said before, the MILPERSMAN would trump the 1420, if that is in fact what they're going off of. I think your best bet would be to e-mail the processor on Tues. and ask what their decision was...

    Age waiver (OPNAV 1420.1A)

I was 29 when I applied and when I commissioned. I guess you could ask the processor what they're going off of. If it's the MILPERSMAN, like I think, then that would trump the 1420. I just wish they'd update the 1420 so we're not mislead when applying. As for NFO, why not take the ASTB again...
  40. B

    Age waiver (OPNAV 1420.1A)

I ran into the same problem when I applied. I'm not sure if my package made it to the board or not, but my Skipper got an e-mail from the processor saying I was too old for pilot, but they were offering me NFO, which I hadn't even applied for. I was pretty disappointed at first, but I thought...

    You thought Berkley was bad?

No kidding. The Navy should look into that. Maybe we could avoid some of the complaints around Oceana, Atsugi, etc:D

    Api Prt

I guess not. I've never worked with NROTC freshmen...thankfully;)
  43. B

    Api Prt

That is correct, but for what it's worth, in my ten years in the Navy, I haven't seen anyone fail the sit-reach. I'm sure it's happened, but I haven't seen it.
  44. B

    officer retention

Ken, MB was referring to HSL, which is COMPLTELY different from a CAG squadron. On a one bird HSL det, you usually only have two crews, three for a two bird det. It's not that the logistics of moving people isn't possible, your det just can't afford to lose anyone.
  45. B

    Api Prt

You'd be surprised. I'm 30 and recently finished API. I'm by no means a stud, but I was smoking several of my 22 yo classmates on the PRT, swim, etc. It's pretty sad if this guy is passing you on the run.:D
  46. B

    You thought Berkley was bad?

No..definitely doesn't compare to what's going on in Berkeley. I can certainly understand the mayor's viewpoint. On the other hand, commenting that he doesn't want them "playing war in Toledo" makes me wonder if he doesn't have his own agenda.
