    Funny Navy Recruiting Ad

The first time it was posted, it was under a boring title. That's why you missed it.

If a man had posted that, it might have been construed as yellow-zone.

Haha, you guys are gonna be COLD! And WET! Give my regards to the man-sized holes in the deck after they get filled with mud, slush, and lieutenants.

    winter select vs spring/summer select

I heard a rumor that if you knock on the CO's door during your first week at Primary and tell him how much you want to fly jets and nothing else, he might slip a note in your training jacket for the instructors to boost your grades to make you more competitive for jets. If you graduate with over...

    Some Questions from a Student.....

Oh, the old officer vs enlisted debate. OCS is more physically intensive, and you are required to think and show a certain level of responsibility. Boot camp is a longer test of will and messes with your mind. Officers bear the burden of command, in which they are personally responsible for...

    IMPORTANT tbs question

Whistle! Absolutely right. When everyone finds out they're required for land nav, the PX tactically runs out of them.

    I can't help but laugh.

I've met many people who claim that they won't be able to stop laughing, but I've yet to see someone laugh during a personalized arse-chewing.

    Chuck Norris

Are you referring to the subset of Chuck Norris facts that pertain to Naval aviation? Here's the only one I remember: "When Chuck Norris went through Primary, he didn't select jets; jets selected him." Pretty good, eh? I'm sure a search of the forums would yield another joke or two.

Wasn't aware that the 5.0 version was out yet. I couldn't even find it with Google. The "easy" solution would be to uninstall it and go with the older version.

I know a few immigrants in the officer corps. They all wish they spoke better English when they first joined up. If English is your second language, work on your grammar and pronunciation. This will reap you benefits.

    Microsoft Flight Simulator?

The FS is also a good way to practice pattern work, and to a limited degree, course rules (especially the radio calls). But you can't really work on these until you get to Primary.

    Astronautics or Aeronautics engineering

Isn't a technical degree a pre-req to be a test pilot? And isn't that a stepping stone to NASA? Between aero- and astro- nautics, a double major should do just fine.

    T-34a

Are you getting any instrument time in? Many instructors will acknowledge that having a civil instrument ticket makes RI's (radio instruments) much less painful. The avionics package in the A model is probably a bit different, but the procedures for RI approaches and flight planning should be...

    Suggestions?

So, you wanna be a skid pilot, eh? So do the other 40% of Marines that don't want jets. It's gonna be competitive along the way, and at any time, you could lose your "guaranteed" flight contract for numerous reasons (mostly physical qualifications). Stay humble, because this is some of the...

    Blue Brains?

As far as Primary goes, I've never encountered an IP who inspects the contents. They can tell if you're reading something that should be memorized. I recommend starting out with all the brain-sheets they give you, and after the first few flights, remove anything that doesn't appear applicable...

    Aviation Contract Injury Hypothetical

    OCC flight home

The reason PLC guys fly for free is because their orders activate them for 6 (or 10) weeks, and then deactivate them, so they rate free travel. You, on the other hand, will rate free travel for your activation, but won't be de-activated (to my knowledge) between OCS and TBS. You will, however...

    How long of a wait?

For the summer PLC classes, you should be contracted during the preceding winter/spring, so hopefully you'll know by March. It isn't unheard of to be classed up in April or May, though. My advice is to start preparing as if you're going in May.

Don't think of it as lying; it's willingly volunteering misinformation. It's called a contract, and you'll be sent to OCS on an Air, Law, or Ground contract. You should know several months before you go. Yes. At any point, you can become NPQ, or "Not Physically Qualified". This usually...

Real quick question (NFOs and Whiting)

If you're confident on doing Primary at Corpus, live as close to NASP as you can during API. If you're confident on going to Whiting and then selecting Helo's at Whiting, live in Pace or Milton. The only drawback is an extra 15 mins driving to/from API, and downtown/beaches are a bit farther...

    Ground to Air @ TBS?

Not sure what those scores mean, but if your ASTB is sufficient for a flight contract, don't let a re-take come between you and "aceing" TBS (if there is such a thing). What you'll learn there is far more important than a few extra points on a test.

Two Weeks at OCS: How to Get NPQ'd

In case it's not posted elsewhere, try doing a majority of your running on a non-paved surface. It'll reduce your chances of shin splints and stress fractures. Just watch out for the sprained ankles.

    Ground to Air @ TBS?

Do as much as you can prior to TBS (flight physical, ASTB, etc), and try to avoid waivers. True that with a waiver, you are qualified. On the other hand, most company XO's (who generally hate doing all the air contract work) will not bend over backwards to get some guy a waiver (for whatever...

Is Your Civilian Job Protected During Plc

Try selling it off to them as free leadership/management training for you that would be an asset to the company. With all their military contracts, I'd have a hard time believing they would be hostile to your situation.

whats the new flight contract DOR policy?

As of November '04, guys who DOR'ed out of aviation before API were unable to compete for an MOS. Translation: most got supply. Current API Gear Issue Situation

I'll give you mine. As for "unauthorized" flight suits, many guys (mostly instructors) wear different styles of flight suits. If they look remotely like the issued ones and you don't mind spending a few bucks, I'd try getting a pair and see if anyone notices. Just don't crash, and flame...

    Woohoo...finally a 1st class swimmer!

For all you pre-TBS/API bubbas out there, make sure you get with someone who recently went through the program to learn the many nuances of proper "technique" of swimming. At TBS, the strokes don't count unless you do them the "proper" way. More relaxed at API, but the concept remains true. Try...
