    API Gouge

Most Navygouge I've seen is a bit dated. The best stuff I saw was from the Saudi guys. They had whole books of practice tests that closely resembled the actual tests. In my opinion, practice tests are the best form of "gouge".

    PLC air question

Not a hater; I just enjoy squashing dreams. I'll tell you a secret: there's no tooth fairy. But really, I've seen quite a few fallen dreams (mostly guys getting not getting their first choice at MOS or airframe selection). It's always better to know going in what the downfalls might be.

Will there be any leave for pilots b/f API?

Bonnie, your profile lists him as a Naval wannabe, and from what my squid buddies told me, they all had to wait around for a few weeks/months before API. If for some reason that doesn't work out, I can almost guarantee he'll have at least 2 weeks between API and Primary in which to take leave...

    Being married at TBS

Another story: my wife got her Masters from FSU while I was in API/Primary, and is now working on base in a (hopefully) transferrable job. She had to fight to get that in-state tuition, but finally got it worked out. Moral of the story: if you dig far enough, you'll either find gold or hit rock...

No, it's a new thing at MEPS, where you inhale an "unknown" gas and try to identify it. It's actually pretty hard. ;-)

    Dress Blue question

I've yet to see someone just wearing their Blues because they felt like it. It's quite possibly the most uncomfortable thing I've ever endured. Because of their projected authority, make sure your personal grooming and uniform setup is impeccable, and your professional conduct is beyond...

flight time - we only need one thread at a time on this ...

Most guys I know with tons of prior flight time complain about how different the Navy way is from the "real" way. Don't expect to impress any instructors with your staggering log books.

    Infantry

That's rare. For all pre-TBS dudes here, nobody DECIDES on an MOS. They ASK for it, then are TOLD what they got. If in doubt about your flight contract, just remember: flight pay.
  17. ArkhamAsylum

    PLC air question

The contract isn't just a gimme, and you can get DQ'd at any time. If flying is what you REALLY want to do, you might have more luck with one of the other branches.

    primary

To go flight-by-flight, I recommend Gerber Gouge; however, the systems, limitations, and EPs are far more important than the conduct of the flight. Focus on those AFTER API.

Way to go CNN!!! Just great...

The TBS MCMAP training is completely company-dependent. Taking Leave During TBS?

I'm not an expert, but I don't think the Marine Corps has a designated "Loadmaster" MOS; I believe the C-130 crew are trained in all aspects of their jobs, and the crew chief generally acts as what we would call a loadmaster. If anyone has a better answer, please chime in. I don't want to do...

    Air slots at TBS?

If you really NEED to fly jets, go Air Force. If you go Marines and you're not able to fly, there will be no tears shed. Given the new flight contract DOR policy, there will be far fewer open air slots available than in previous years. And don't trust your OSO when he delays an "easy" task, such...
