PT-17 ground loop at DCA this am.

Sounds a little like the Pitts.... it's an honest airplane, it'll do everything you tell it to...even if you don't mean to... which is the problem for a lot of guys. Seems like most trainers will let you get away with sloppy flying without even knowing about it...

PT-17 ground loop at DCA this am.

The stearman's front brakes would feel like a foot rest for a passenger who doesn't know anything - which happens to be heel brakes. Usually the first instruction that you would tell a passenger in a tailwheel (or any other aircraft with dual controls) is feet on the floor - don't touch nothin'

Just from an amateur, dense opinion ... I didn't see the aircraft that the factor he was trying to avoid in the video at the "27 second" mark. Was he dead sticking in..? It sounded like it spooled up and there was still stores on the aircraft... so I have no idea what happened... just seems a...

I didn't/counldn't see anything - I'm not really sure I've heard of flying into the ground to avoid another aircraft.

PT-17 ground loop at DCA this am.

Wouldn't call that a ground loop... Guess it's never a good idea to do a wheel landing with the brakes on... Poor guy... that looked like a nice airplane!!

Biggest shock of getting back into a light aircraft?

Just go up.. do some slow flight, stalls, steeps, etc ...Cessna, Pitts, etc... they all fly like airplanes - some a little more so than others

"Pilots Pull Rank, Declare Emergency At JFK (With Audio)"

Most of the islands down 'yonder have crashed aircraft on every end of every runway to attest to that (as I'm sure you've seen). In the FBOs the story always starts .... "so the first time I crashed a DC-3/6/etc on take-off..." On a side note totally off topic - one of the old frieght dogs...

I don't know about you guys... but the waiting game has been a little easier by applying to Air National Guard units for pilot slots. They say any good aviator always has an out when planning. Well...about 7 years ago some friends and I designed a pretty cool potato gun on an AutoCAD program... we built it, went out to a large, dry lake bed to test fire it... turns out the dry lake bed was private property - there happened to be some county mounties patrolling the area looking for...

Asst State Attorney in FL fired after refusing to stop speaking to Tea Party groups

I'm having trouble understanding that situtation. These signed photos were of previous CinCs - which happen to be the two previous administrations - so what? It sounds like more politics were involved in the direction to remove the photos rather than preventing "politics in the office". In my...

New York moves for tougher gun laws after failed bombing

Not too long ago I actually accidently grabbed a flight bag that I had used for the range a long time ago. Forgot about the .308 ammo in the pouches... went through quite a few airport security screens (they even searched the bag several times) over the period of a couple months... nothin...

21kt x-wind doesn't seem too bad... but... what would have happened if something were to happen (whether from pilot error or whatever) and metal was bent? The NTSB would immediately find the cause, more than likely, poor pilot decision making. Better safe than sorry. It's been pretty gusty...

After SUVs are banned, then airliners will probably be banned as well... since they've had a history of flying themselves into towers. I just had to move up to NY temporarily for a job... not only are there a bunch of gun/weapon laws but there are several other weird laws - the state speed...
